Hooks are offset from each other so that when one end is away from the neck, the other end is against the user's neck when used to hold the mask in place of the ears. Poorly designed for what I intended to use it for.

Although they are designed to tie hair up like ponytails, I actually use them as face mask extensions that allow me to attach the mask at the nape of the neck instead of the ears. My hairdresser recommended it to me for this application.
