Screaming Sounds: Sports

Many hours and many days of trying to adjust and remove these sounds. Toe-in, toe-out, flat, discs cleaned, pads polished and completely unusable. I didn't even get out of my driveway to drive my beach cruiser without the brakes screeching! But the neighbors are having fun. Don't buy if your bike has noisy brakes, it will affect their performance.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • There are nuances

The composition of the pad matters.

I bought a front brake caliper on my cruiser complete with the worst set of brake pads in the world. I've never had bad brake pads. The Kool Stop pads made a huge difference, stopping quickly with little effort. It's amazing what a difference a good set of brake pads can make. The ones I bought are all black but my rims are 24" and chrome for what it's worth.

  • nice deal

These are Eagle 2 pads, not Thinline

I have bought Eagle 2 pads elsewhere and they worked fine. However, the name of this product on Revain is Kool Stop Thinline, which is a separate pad from the Eagle 2. I received the Eagle 2 pads and sent them back, assuming they accidentally sent me the wrong type. However, the replacement I received was also an Eagle 2, not a Thinline. The replacement process was easy, except they still received brake pads that didn't match the listing name.

Brake pads and Sanmishi

I put a pair on the front and a pair on the back. Works perfect. They work so well that the front ends threw me over the wheel. See, Mike took off his jersey and the brake lever ripped the bag, I couldn't coast in the middle of traffic and before I could sit back I hit the front brake. Everything was in order. The sandwiches were safe. I ended up with a bit of injured dignity and it dropped the chain. But I stopped! Those are good brake pads. They should stop wet/dry.

Clean & Grip - Bicycle Brakes & Parts

Clean the rim. Not just alcohol and a rag. Your rim should be polished to CLEAN prior to installing new pads. The pads themselves are grippy! I'll let you know how long they last. Most importantly, they are EXCITING! You don't have to grind them like some people do. The material on the outside is the same throughout, so why use sandpaper and inject small pebbles into the cushion? It's outside of me. Dead pads! They even come in multiple colors. More ground contact = more braking power!

Fits cantilever brakes on old tandem bikes

The rear brake pads on my tandem bike were worn and noisy. It took about fifteen minutes to install and adjust these pads. Now the bike holds perfectly and the noise is gone. These pads have unthreaded (smooth) posts. Basic tools are required for installation. If you need installation instructions, check out some bike repair videos that can be found on YouTube. For example, search YouTube for this heading: Brake Caliper Installation and Adjustment – Cantilever Smooth PostPros: Available. Good…

Excellent stopping power for my cantilever.

I didn't try Kool Stop brakes until I bought and installed them. I will compare them to XLC cantilever pads (1/2 price for 2 pairs). It fits the ad. I ordered 2 pairs. They were easy to assemble and the instructions were good. If you get the toe angle and flatness right, you'll really get a lot of power out of them. I installed them just before writing this review. They're not broken in yet, but after walking up and down the driveway, I immediately noticed that the braking power is pretty damn…

The best Cantis old school shoe replacement I've found in 20 years.

Back when disc and even linear brakes weren't common, cantilever brakes were the norm on mountain bikes. I started wearing Eagle Claw shoes in the 90's; then a simple black connection. They were and are great. Easy to put on, just like canti shoes, and the fin on the back does the dual role of sweeping wet material off the rim and creating toe for the contact patch. On the recommendation of my LBS, this time I tried a double mix with black and salmon. Installation was as easy as ever and they…
