Feedback Whetstone

Unfortunately I have never tried this product. I bought it as a new product as I have done many times before. When this whetstone was opened it was clearly in use - blackened from long use. Looks like someone sharpened all their knives and then sent the item back. Therefore it is not like a new product and I sent it back immediately. I found a better sharpening stone for the same price so I can't recommend this one.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Cleanliness

Very good value sharpening stones

Stones are small but for the price they work well. The combination of grit has worked very well for sharpening my Mercer Culinary Renaissance chef's knife. I had a good lead on the first try. The base is useful for holding the stone in place. I had to put it on a cutting board instead of a smooth plastic counter. You don't need to soak for long - about 15 minutes. There is a bit of a learning curve to sharpening on a whetstone. I'm happy with everything.

Good product: whetstones

quality product. The double-sided sharpening stone allows you to sharpen on coarse grits and remove shavings on fine grits. It comes with a bamboo base to hold the stone securely in place while sharpening the knife and there are also two pieces of rubber to hold the stone in place on the base. The blade guide is also very useful and not always visible. I think this attention to detail speaks well for the company that makes the product. I expect whetstones to last several decades so I'm looking…

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons

Superior Entry Whetstone

Once I started pulling the knife towards me instead of sliding it across the rock like I've seen in some demos, the sharpness of my knives began to visibly improve. Having made the entire set of knives and a pocket knife my knives and especially the tips are much sharper than the previous sharpening tool I have used in the last 10 years. For the price I'd say you're getting a great deal on an entry-level whetstone to try your hand at much sharper kitchen tools. The included rubber grips, rail…

Excellent stones are the best sharpeners

I'm new to knife sharpening and these are my first stones. With the help of some YouTube videos I quickly learned how to use them and the 1000/6000 combo seems perfect for our knives. I also bought a set of leather straps here at Revain which was the final piece of the puzzle for me to get our knives razor sharp and cut paper like these pro YouTube videos. Tip: a) It is best to leave the stone in the water until no more bubbles appear. b) Do not press the blade too hard. Consistent repetition…

Why would the logo be on the sharpening stone?.I had to take another stone and rub them together to get it flat again to make. If you don't have another stone, you'd better buy something else. Also, the brand name is misleading because it's not made in Japan but in China. I don't like being scammed, so I sent it back and ordered a similar king brand sharpening stone made in Japan. You that there is a big difference in quality. This Chinese stone (called Kota Japan ironic?) is much softer and…

Pros
  • TWO STONES IN ONE - Use coarse 1000 grit to smooth the blade before finishing. Use 6000 grit for the perfect razor sharpness. Dimensions 7.25" x 2.25" x 1". Used with diamond sharpening stones.
