Someone mentioned a jammed hex bolt. This should be a common problem with this product. I have the same problem. Nearly completing the installation, I found that the hex screw was stuck and wouldn't come out no matter what. I returned the item and asked for a replacement. Another had the exact same problem; Allen screw jammed. I have given up this product. I bought another design from Kwikset hoping for a better result.

This was a big improvement over our previous door handle. It was easy to install. Fitting a doorknob for the first time. The biggest problem I had was that the hex screw did not turn well. This was a test of my fine motor skills. I would recommend carefully removing and replacing the hex bolt. I found that the screw has a counter thread. We replaced the builder's round doorknob after it stopped working properly. Since the door wasn't designed for a long handle, we had to drill a hole for the bottom of the handle. The template included in the instructions was very easy to stick on and found exactly where we needed to drill. I have an older front door and couldn't find any of these dressier handles that would fit as the latch was too far from the handle. Most of these handles I've come across seem to combine a latch with a handle. This is the ideal solution without changing or modifying the door. I have a very similar handle from this brand with a deadbolt lock that matches my other door perfectly.
