Never let the battery run out or it will die forever

Very disappointed. If you don't plug this thing into a charger the moment you have a bar, it will die within days and take days to charge. But if it happens a few times, it dies and never turns on again. The whole week was on the charge and would not turn on again. With Jumpfrog tablets, you have to press and hold the power button to turn it on, even then it won't turn on. I'm back for a new edition. I've had tablets for both my kids for 7 years and just learned how to charge them before they…

Can be used offline, robust but not very intuitive.

I bought this for my 6 year old niece and one of the best things about it was that it could be used offline. Up to 25 games can be downloaded for offline use. They don't have internet so this was extra important. To be honest I was surprised at how solid it felt in my hands, oily and impact resistant thanks to the included rubber boot. So I was very confident that he would survive. Since they don't have internet, I actually topped it up, downloaded a few dozen games, and updated the software…

Pros
  • hands free
Cons
  • so far so good

Update: My original rating has been replaced with this current one because I felt it was important to me To inform Revain (and LeapFrog) buyers of what I consider to be unnecessarily poor user interface and technical issues that I feel detract from the otherwise excellent quality of this product. This review may be premature as I am not fully familiar with LeapFrog's LeapPad device. I'm a little lacking in understanding of the gameplay in general, but I'm particularly confused by the UI, which…

Pros

The best learning tablet!

This is one of my favorite educational toys. We've had LeapPads before, but this is a whole new level. The apps that come with it are great, but my preschooler really likes the Academy app. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that LeapFrog gave us a free 3 month trial of their Academy tablet app, but my toddler loved it so much I signed up for a year. (The annual price is VERY cheap, especially if you are homeschooled like us and used to buying an extremely expensive syllabus). 3 months free…

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • A dubious purchase for the elderly
