Good product at a price

I am updating my rating and lowering the stars from 5 to 3 stars. The reason is that we have only used this product a couple of times and the last time we tried to use it the CD would not play. Then the CD got stuck inside and we couldn't open the device by pressing the eject button. My husband opened it with a thin blade and we are now suspicious of using it. My husband's CD/DVD player died on his old computer so we bought it to replace that drive. This product arrived in excellent condition…

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • A long time ago

The product broke after about two weeks of infrequent and careful use. The hard drive is no longer open. I tried contacting LG support to send it back as it has a one year warranty. Your service request was difficult to fill out and didn't appear to be asking for the correct information as I had to submit multiple requests before I was finally able to submit it. All I got was a few emails saying I didn't have the information I needed or that my request was "pending". It has been several months…

Pros
  • I like everything so far
Cons
  • not reliable

Great and simple CD/DVD drive for less money!

For the price, this is a standard external CD/DVD drive that works. For those who use an external drive extensively, there may be a need for a higher quality end product that can withstand the wear and tear of the drive. For others who rarely (occasionally) use this LG may be suitable. It's well built. It's made of plastic, although it's quite durable, but it will break if dropped. So handle it carefully.2. It works out of the box with Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. You don't need to install a separate…

Doesn't play DVDs on Macintosh

This thing plays CDs but not DVDs on my Macintosh, even though the box says Macintosh compatible. According to Revain's specs, it works on Macintosh. There is nothing unusual about my car. Also, this unit is known to be unable to play DVDs on Macintosh. It's all over the Macintosh support forums. Apparently everyone knows except the manufacturer and Revain. The manufacturer does not have a help and support website for this product. I was wondering if I need to download a driver but there isn't…

Be careful when reinstalling Windows (I/O) Error

I bought this CD for a clean install of Windows 7 on a Toshiba laptop. During the installation, I kept getting the Windows 7 error 0xc00000e9, which means the drive was powered off and was causing I/O errors. Tried all USB ports. Additionally, if the laptop has a bad drive, you will need to unplug the internal DVD drive before you can boot from that drive. The drive works but fails when you try to install Windows. The manual suggests buying a Y adapter, but that defeats the purpose of a single…

Pros
  • Durable test results
Cons
  • sad packaging

A great optical drive solution for the modern computing age!

Many modern portable PCs don't have a CD/DVD drive or the ability to build one internally. This omission is partly caused by smaller form factors that are designed for portability in size and weight. But even for systems physically large enough to hold a single device, the need for an optical drive is ever decreasing. Almost all applications and device drivers are available on the Internet, eliminating the need to ship software on physical media, where it can become obsolete before the media…

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • No performance
