Does the job - Pliers

Bought to crimp the inner tie rod boot clamp on the steering rack and it did the job. I had to use a clever grip to squeeze as I didn't have enough room to give my full power.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Will not fit all

Weak. Not useful for CV boots.

Secondly, the clamping force is not sufficient. It stops without fully closing the tool. I tried modifying the tool for more compression but that didn't work. The metal is too malleable. Not useful for CV boots

Pros
  • Robust design
Cons
  • Discontinued model

Not the best tool, but good for clamping in tight spaces

Not the best tool, but good for clamping in tight spaces. As others have noted, it doesn't close tight enough and the tool has some play. It's just not a great tool, but it's cheap. If you ever need it, do it. If you need it often, look elsewhere.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Almost never

Bad product for vise and locking pliers

Poor design Too difficult to grip and the handles flex before the clip is compressed. Unfortunately I missed the return date by 2 days so I'm sticking with it. For an additional $10 you can get KNIPEX Tools - 10 99 i220 - Ear Clamp Pliers, Front and Side Jaws (1099i220). This is a great tool and very well made. Squeezing the clamps together wasn't difficult.

Pros
  • Free for educational use
Cons
  • Some problems

The best tool ever. on pliers

They work great. They are tapered so their front face is angled and once you start crimping you push more and stop crimping. Saved me hours and hours. I'd have to create a tool to crimp my stem straight, or take out the post to use a different style of perpendicular. People say to use wire cutters in these situations, but these cutters won't push the crimp down like they should. . Since the OEM kit was $80 to make ONE side of the rack, I'd like to use it to properly install the clamps.

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
  • Some difficulties

How could I live without one of them for so long?!

EXCELLENT tool for crimping boots on rack and pinion steering gears! I've seen other reports of this being used on CVJ boots and these cleats require significantly more power than intended. Here's a radical idea. Try to use the right…

These pliers WORK! for vise and locking pliers

I received these pliers and it literally took 2 minutes to pinch my two boots covering my inner tie rods. The result was absolutely professional and I don't understand why people in other reviews say it takes gorilla hands or a vise to crimp. There was nothing like it, it was that simple. I love the fact that the heads of these pliers are on the side so you can align the handles with the shaft or pull rod to clamp the clamp. I'm so glad I bought these and not the ones you end up curling. Great…

It's the "right tool " for the job, but not strong enough

What did I really expect from this tool? bright. Guess what? It compresses the yoke, but NOT EASY. I needed Arnold Schwarzenegger's help to crimp a boot collar and even then it wasn't nearly as good as what you get from the factory. It also doesn't have anything to extend the handles to add extra force to the clamp, so what you see is what you get. Once you pick it up and try to crimp this CV boot clip you'll know what I mean. 3 stars because it mostly does what it's supposed to, but I'd…

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Requires an outlet

Be smarter than the tool!

As other reviewers have noted, this tool requires gorilla strength to make really good picks. If you are trying to get that power with your hands, DO IT WRONG. Clamp vises to the ends of the handlebars if you did everything by hand. If you're using it to make CV CV boots, you probably have the wrong tooling as well. This tool is more for the inner tie rod boot. The CV axes are important enough that they often give you torque specs or ear measurement specs. This tool has no provisions for the…

Pros
  • Highly rated by testers for grip and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
