Front main oil seal Porsche 944 could not be removed.

This tool simply folded the sealing lip outwards where it was pulled by the blade. However, this allowed another tool to be inserted into the resulting gap, after which the seal could be removed quite easily. As others have noted, the tool could be improved with a rounded profile that is lapped to the pivot bearing and/or a delrin or nylon cap where it abuts the block. The flat surface on the back of the shaft where the bolt is tightened helps set the pivot point at the correct angle for…

Use carefully to avoid scratching!

Be careful not to scratch the surface! He removed my old oil seal but also scratched the sealed surface of the crankshaft. I had to polish out the scratches. I could have tried a little to avoid scratches, but given the complexity and clumsiness of the whole extraction, it proved really hard to avoid. I was able to polish out the scratches. A craftsman with less attention to detail might have overlooked this and wondered why the new seal wears out prematurely in operation. The small part of the

didn't work for me: special puller

I think the description should better explain what size and type of oil seal this tool is designed for. That didn't work for me. Maybe I used the tool wrong. It didn't move my gasket, which is about 3" in diameter, about 1/2" thick, and has a shank diameter of about 2". I dropped that tool and instead resorted to lots of sheet metal screws and a cat's paw and very slowly unsnapped the seal. I'm not sure yet if the tool hit my shank, but I know the screws didn't. A few positive notes: The tool…

Much better than the old method.

Used on my 1994 300ZX TT. It was way better than just using a screwdriver or pickaxe. Don't worry about scratching something or hurting your hands when slipping tools or jabbing fingers. Advice that worked for me on all 5 seals which I pulled out in about 3 minutes on the first try, I didn't really get the hook between the seal and the nock on the one next to the nock itself. My seals weren't super hardened so I stuck the hook into the rubber and around the inner spring in the seal so the metal

Works well with a little practice.

This tool helped me a lot when changing the camshaft seals when changing the timing belt. I think your technique comes into play when you use it for the best results. I have found that placing the pivot as close to the end of the hook as possible provides maximum seal tension BECAUSE you are also rotating the handle to keep the hook engaged with the seal wall. My cats came out on one try each! The hook did not bend at all, even though the seals were very hard. Not even scratched the metal! The…

Pleasantly surprised!

I was skeptical but decided to try this tool. I was fed up with the shadow screw method and figured it was only a matter of time before I messed something up with it. For $15 I realized what the heck. It worked great! You must be patient when working a small lip above the surface and below the seal. Remember that you are not trying to fully penetrate the seal. You just need to work the tool under the metal core. As soon as he enters, don't start slapping him. You lift a little, move the tool to
