Excellent value for money for Sports & Handheld GPS

I have bought two Magellan 2200T and am very satisfied. I bought my first unit for motorcycle use as it is the only reasonably priced waterproof unit I could find and was happy with the previous Magellan GPS. I liked it so much as a general purpose GPS that I recently bought another one as a Christmas present for my daughter. The interface, especially with the upgrade to boating and using a backpack, is pretty nice.

Pros
  • Same as everything before

Doubtful GPS, finder and accessories

I bought the 2200T for bike and car use. I was looking for a battery powered waterproof handheld GPSr under $500. The Megellan 2200T fits perfectly, but after two weeks of use I noticed some glaring flaws in the 2200T1. Questionable routing. I've had some downright odd routes that I really wonder if I trust2. If you are on the highway, this GPSr will NOT show city names. I've tried all zoom levels, 2 and 3D, all to no avail. At the right zoom level you will see a city with streets but no name…

Very mixed review

I am very happy with the performance of the product itself. It's fairly intuitive to use and gives sensible, clear instructions. It quickly recalculates routes after missed turns. The score for product performance alone would be a 5. Conversely, for the physical design and construction of the device, the score would be a 1. I only had the device for 3 weeks before the connector that plugs into the power cord broke. Magellan repaired the device for free, but they took their time doing it (Note…

Good, but could be better

I bought my instrument before Christmas. Since then I have made several trips. Longest from Pennsylvania to Georgia. In almost all cases the GPS worked very well. Good text-to-speech function, but the pronunciation takes some getting used to. I came across a block. In fact, it behaved as if the processor was stuck in a loop and unable to process satellite information. Restarting the GPS solved the problem. I also ran into a time where it calculated a very wrong direction. Otherwise the device…

Best-in-class Sports & Handheld GPS

The 2200T only came out this fall (2006) so many online reviews didn't properly compare it to the competition. The closest competition comes from the Tom Tom One (same price range), although many are considering paying more money for the Garmin Nuvi 360 as well, compared to £2200. The Nuvi felt a bit cheap compared to the very solid feel of the 2200T. Given the Nuvi's significantly higher price point and the large overlap in key features, I didn't consider the Nuvi further. You may have a…
