This is a very poorly designed piece. The idea is great, but poorly implemented. We had to drill holes in the base to keep the sharp end of the knife in place and not twist sideways. We have professional Global Knives for tough use. The magnets weren't strong enough to hold them in place.

I love this product! It holds 12+ knives, keeping them clean and allowing air drying with no roughness in the insert holders/knife holders. The magnet is a little weak at the ends so you may need to refill knives, but the middle section is very pathetic and holds the heaviest knives well. If you have fewer boiled quinces than I do, you'll be fine with the weaker end magnets.

The magnets in this one appear to be about 1/2 or more or very weak. My 4.25" paring knives barely stick. If you hit the stand, they fall instantly. My 8" boning knife has the same problem. However, my 8" chef's knife and cleaver do the job just fine. When I remove the cleaver, I have to hold the block to keep all of the other knives (including the chef's knife) from falling off. Excellent quality and price. Easy to assemble and durable. I don't need a magnetic wall mount because I don't want to drill into the wall or back wall, and I also wanted to attach knives on both sides to increase capacity. The magnet is strong enough on both sides, the bamboo material PLUS does not scratch the beautiful surface of the knife when you remove the knife by pulling the surface up or down (which was very important to me).

The magnets on it are very strong although it seems there is only one strip and is not fully magnetized. This is stated in the description, but be aware that anyone with a blade longer than 8" will go into the base. Finally I removed the star because the holes in the bottom of the base for screwing in and attaching the block are too small for the screws provided. We had to use an electric drill to get it in when we couldn't screw it in with our hand screwdriver.

There was an old knife block with plastic fingers that just didn't work. The fingers were bent and then the knives didn't slide properly. The wooden case even broke, so I was looking for something that would last. It was very convenient. Pair of screws for attaching the lower part to the vertical part. I have found two major issues with this unit. First, it's not big enough to handle a regular 8-inch chef's knife. Yes, the knife will stick, but part of the blade will protrude past the top of the block. The longer the blade, the more the cutting edge protrudes. I'm leaning toward 2020 Surreal Nightmare as a home decor theme and it helps a lot. It holds knives well, looks good and is easy to assemble. I have no issues with dropped knives and the design is nice. I like that the knives don't touch and I can move them around on different work surfaces. Tried to put this together but the screws haven't gone in yet. I tried using a hand drill and one of the screws broke in the hole. The other two eventually entered, but I think they were stopped by a magnet. So now I have this wobbly thing I can't tell to send back.
