Just bought this to replace a flimsy mailbox my neighbors and I had outside the front door. Thick metal is good, and a special lock/clasp is good too. There is a pad to prevent water from entering the top slot (which the postman uses) but not the bottom one. Because of this, the bottom tray leaks like a sieve, and all our mail gets very wet. Don't worry about those cheap, discounted hardware store boxes made out of compressed tinfoil; I have video of a thief opening it with her bare hands.
