Components isolated

All "conductive" components are painted and fail the basic continuity test, which means you absolutely cannot use the antenna itself. Also, the attachment system is terrible. It uses a Phillips head screw and it's totally impossible to put a screwdriver on the head. I ended up sanding it down for continuity and replacing the bolt with my own double nut hex bolt.

I am satisfied with the antenna, I will buy more.

Installation on my 1997 Acura Integra was simple and easy. I removed the old one (which was tedious), but installing this new universal style from Metra was easy. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a standard car antenna and has no other options. Reception was great and it's just the right size for my car. It's not too big and ugly.

Replacement rubber antenna for Heartland Edge trailer

I bought this to replace the rubber antenna on my 18ft Edge trailer. The original rubber antenna was knocked over by a branch as it became quite brittle after 4 years of bad weather. The adjustable base was fine, but I couldn't find a similar rubber antenna that screwed onto the original base until I found this unit. I was able to screw it into the existing body and reattach it to the trailer. Great find even if I don't need the base that comes with it.

  • Nice to use
Cons
  • Only available in black

Bad mount design.

I've been trying to install this on a 2000 Toyota 4Runner all day. The problem is that it's not like most antenna mounts, which have a threaded part that comes out of a hole in the body. It had a small Phillips screw holding the bracket to the base and the design makes it almost impossible to put the pieces together. Also, I doubt the screw will hold the mount tight enough to the base to last very long. This is not how car antenna mounts have been designed for the last several decades, and it's

Didn't work well and didn't look very good

I installed this item in place of the factory unpowered telescopic antenna. First, the base is straight, with an adjustable antenna angle. My mounting hole is at the wing bend, so I mounted the antenna straight and then angled it up. It really looked awful. Then the reception was no better than with my broken antenna. So I figured it was just an HD radio signal near me. I later bought a factory replacement no power telescopic antenna for my car and it worked great. So I gave it 2 stars becauseโ€ฆ

Difficult to assemble and doesn't fit right!

I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and bought this one because the old one broke. It's not always universal! The silver pins holding it in place under the hood are too long to fit in the original antenna hole, resulting in small indentations next to the large hole you see in the picture. So we had to drill a hole in the side to make it fit. (Of course, this was done after we drilled another hole right next to the original antenna position, thinking there would be more space :/.) After weโ€ฆ

  • Can't remember

Fixed bug that caused my radio to have no AM and only patchy FM. Although, Metra, if you want to make a custom smaller screw, include at least two of different lengths. The included screw barely goes through the rubber base. I understand that the antenna cable is screwed into the base of the mount and should be sticking out of the car. But with my Chevy HHR, I had to go to Tacoma Screw (Washington Base Co., which I recommend for specialty screws, hardware, and customer service) to speciallyโ€ฆ

100% useless in every way.

I decided to test it properly before disassembling, I'm glad the broken standard antenna has better reception.1. All components are painted with non-conductive black paint - there is no signal unless every edge of every part connected to "Antenna"2 is sanded. The assembly design is just stupid, there is no real way to tighten it. You can disassemble the ball part to put a screwdriver in it, but you can't hold it to tighten it securely. makes the signal terrible even if it hasn't been paintedโ€ฆ

Fits 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

If you have a car with a roof antenna you probably have very poor radio reception. My 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe has this antenna design, so I had to look for a replacement antenna on the roof or on the side. There are so many sizes and shapes of aftermarket radio antennas that I was tempted to pick one of these cool shark fin antennas, but reviews are mixed. People also recommend antenna boosters, but something about their low price told me they were a waste of time. So I said I would useโ€ฆ
