Description of Monoprice Keyboard Converter Adapter 110934

This can be particularly useful if you have a specialty keyboard or mouse device and a PC without PS2 ports. It is also useful in a KVM extender situation allowing PS/2 keyboards/mice TO be used with USB KVMs. No software or special drivers are required.

A good inexpensive adapter for old keyboards.

I recently came across an old keyboard that I was given as a gift. It was a Cherry mechanical keyboard. I thought it would be a good idea to replace my current keyboard that keeps turning off and such. The old keyboard required a PS/2 port, which my new computer didn't have. It worked well and no new drivers needed to be installed. I didn't notice anything wrong with the keyboard and it worked without my frustration or anything. I know some keyboards have an adapter built in and a cheaper and…

does the job. about cables and connections

I have a collection of IBM keyboards, including the classic M and M-13 (black, rubber dome with trackpoint). Both use PS/2 connectors and the M-13 requires two such connectors (keyboard and mouse). I bought this cheap one from Office Depot a few years ago. This one worked fine for years, but lately it's started to fail me. I found my keyboard unusable for several minutes, I had to unplug it from the USB port and then plug or unplug the keyboard to reset it. When plugged in for the first time…

This solved my problem. Others don't!

This adapter appears to contain active circuitry, which solved my issue with other similar devices that do NOT appear to have active circuitry. When I restarted my computer, the other adapters didn't work until I connected an additional keyboard and mouse. I then had to use them to access DevManView to remove all keyboard devices, and then remove all mouse devices. Then I would disable additional keyboard and mouse devices. Then I would disable the device adapter. Then I would reboot. I then…

Works great except when it doesn't work!

I tested this with 3 different PS/2 keyboards and each USB port on my computer and on a completely different PC (both Windows 10 PCs) just to make sure it wasn't mine is to blame. This adapter sometimes completely cuts off the power supply for about half a second. The keyboard doesn't turn off (as far as Windows can tell), but all the indicators (caps lock, numlock, scroll lock) turn off and input is ignored until they light up again, forcing you to go back and type again or to correct the word

The one that really works

For testing I have an Ortek MCK-142 Pro mechanical keyboard, a favorite in my office. This is AT model with PS-2 output. I also added an IBM KB-8923 and a Dell SK-8100, both "blank" PS-2 keyboards. I want to use them on a modern desktop computer with USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports. Looking for a way to do this, I realized that there is a difference between an "adapter" which is just a wired solution and a "converter" which has electronics that do it helps make it work. The problem is that there are many

Works with Windows 10 Pro - random key presses?

Update: After a week of daily use, I have very rarely noticed that this adapter can sometimes cause accidental keystrokes and repeated/multiple presses of the same key. It happened 3 times in 7 days. After reviewing the reviews, this seems to be a known issue. It's not enough to put me off using it, but for gaming and typing (or other high-precision keyboard needs) you might want to look at a real USB keyboard. One star off for this erratic behavior. I'm writing this review on a Windows 10 Pro…
