🚗 Monroe MA837 Max-Air Adjustable Shock Absorber Review

After a little research on the Monroe website I decided to order these to fit the back of my FX4. I had to reduce the width of the mounting sleeves by about 1/8" to fit the brackets, everything else was perfect. I didn't need it for more cargo capacity, but I wanted the rear to be stiffer when towing my caravan.

Although not listed specifically for the Grand Cherokee 07, they are sized for static, compressed and extended lengths at 1/2 inch anyway I think. The upper JGC bolts are slightly smaller in diameter than the bushing in the shock. I had several thin wall sleeves that fit perfectly. You could probably install without bushings, just make sure the mounting screws are good and tight.

This is a great product. Significantly improved ride quality and handling. My dissatisfaction is as follows: There is not enough hose. An additional 2-3 foot hose would give me more options. The lugs/bushings were also too wide to mount on a truck. So I had to turn them down 1/8" and fit an extra bushing because (again) the tabs were too big for the screws.

I don't know, maybe I just got a bad pair, but I installed them on my 2011 Ram 1500 and they were dangerously soft. With the truck deflated I tried various psi pressure settings from fully deflated to 60psi just to try to stop the suspension bouncing and nothing worked. Aside from really acting as a shock, they did what was advertised. Suspension removed, no air intake. When I took them off yesterday, there was still the same pressure as when I put them on last week.

Installation was easy. The instructions say to charge up to 90psi to check for air leaks. While checking for air leaks, I heard an odd noise, similar to a pressure release, and a puddle of shock oil formed on the floor. The truck bounced around a lot like it had no bumps at all. First of all, the dampers fit and work great! I measured the ground clearance on the wheel housing before starting. A good driving pressure for this type of truck is 40 lbs. With a height of 38 inches from the ground to the top of the wheel arch. The wobbly way the Dodge has a mounting point on top of the shock will have you swearing!
