Better than leftovers

If I could go around all day and cook this for dinner (nothing needed but boiling water), I'd be very grateful. Likewise, it works well in prepper supplies. But under normal circumstances, I'd rather go to the Hardys for their cookies and gravy. Chunks of meat are slightly larger than a pea. They are tough and in the end I decided to throw them away. They smell, so maybe you like them more than I do. I found I preferred reheated leftovers to the first round. By this point the consistency was…

Need some salt but still tasty

I followed the directions on the back of the packet exactly and then tried this dish. In my head I tried to think: If I was on a hike and had a busy morning when the temperature was in the 40's or 50's, what would I think? My Answer: This meal is delicious, filling (I almost ate the whole bag) and warms you up nicely to start your day. However, at the kitchen table I also thought it needed a pinch of salt and the sausage feels a little rubbery at first but tastes just like sausage as you…

Big bag! - Outdoor Activities

As an avid hiker, I am very familiar with freeze-dried products like this one. I used to have quite a few different Mountain House dishes. Can't say I love them, but they're usually pretty decent for hiking. The MH biscuit and sauce bowl is one of our favorites in the MH line. The bottom line is that you have to let it sit a little longer so that the cookies can absorb enough moisture. The instructions are clear (and on the box). Follow them and in about 10-15 minutes you'll have a decent…

Great taste, questionable texture

Cookies and Sausage Sauce. What's not to like? Mountain House cookies and gravy have just the right flavors, but some people might find their texture off-putting. The sausage pieces are a bit chewy and the cookie/sauce consistency is like pasta. Luckily that doesn't bother me and I liked this breakfast pack. I followed the instructions on the back of the box exactly and that's how it came out. Next time I'll add another 1/4 cup of water for more sauce. Also, I will add some pepper. The taste of

Convenient Dinners for Emergencies

Mountain House Food is the perfect addition to our emergency supplies. Does this biscuit with sauce taste like homemade? .This is a great way to grab a snack in emergencies. This product is a little pricey, but it's such a great addition to my pantry that I think it's worth it. Tip: keep enough spices. on hand to season your food to your liking, and this food will fill your stomach and bring some normalcy to a crazy situation. Tip: After adding liquid, let stand longer than recommended by…

Great taste really impressed lyophilized

All you get here is a 3 serving sachet which is a lot of food for one but a good light breakfast for two. I'll start with everyone wondering how does it taste? Well I'm shocked to say it was delicious. I'm not familiar with their new and classic flavors so can't really compare them but what was in this bag was amazing for freeze drying. The cookies were tender, the sauce was plentiful (actually I got way too much sauce, believe it or not!) and the sausage was decent too. The sausage was a bit…

Same great food, new recyclable pouch

- Made in the USA Switched to recyclable packaging (and a typo on the back) and larger portion sizes. They also changed color. While I could care less about the colors of the packaging, I think they're very 70's and blah. MH has registered with TerraCycle. They work with MH to create recyclable packaging material, and TerraCycle then works with the consumer to collect all waste. You request a label from TerraCycle, package it, and ship it to TerraCycle. Free, free and even more free. The bags…

Not tasty, but edible for emergencies

Made in the USA, I don't like this Mountain House Cookie and Gravy. I wanted to like it but I just can't. I'm very familiar with freeze dried foods and use them all the time in cooking, both for convenience and to ensure I know how to actually use them in an emergency. I find them quite tasty and have had meals for lunch where people have been very complimentary and even asked for the recipe, not knowing the dish contained freeze dried food.
