I had an earlier MSD blaster coil (PN 8235).

I had an earlier MSD blaster coil (part number 8235) in my car and a few years later it broke. I've looked for a new block but haven't found an exact replacement, I've only seen 8207 which is almost identical. I wasn't sure if this would work as nowhere on their website did it say it was a direct replacement, but I took a chance and it actually worked. My engine started immediately.

Nice reel, engine runs great.

I like this design better than the old school Blaster 2 I had. It looks better, takes up less space and works great. Includes case to adjust coil wire as needed. You can also cut the wire to length at this point to avoid wasting ignition energy on a longer wire than necessary. Just buy a cheap crimping tool here and you're good to go, I got it perfect on the first try! Installed block on the firewall. Supplied with rubber vibration isolators.

You could run with this coil

well as far as msd products go they used to sell really good products but like other companies they made it an offshore part you can't rely on. I had to buy this to take my car home from where I had to hitch it up after the car broke down 300 miles from home. If you want the msd coil made here you need to buy the expensive one at almost $300 or buy 2 of them, 1 to carry in the car as a backup if it stops sparking.

Pros
  • . Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Dead when it arrived. Not a good product.

I don't know how you get things like this through QA but they didn't work. I measured it and it doesn't even come close to meeting MSD's spec. There isn't a single spark. I don't dare give it back. I'm going to put it up on the wall to show to people who come into my store looking for something from MSD. It costs $50 no more headaches to fix because people buy this thing and call when it breaks along the way. Can I recommend it? no Either go back to a quality stock coil or spend big on a…

Not reliable for the sea.

This reel is not reliable, poorly made. I've had three of these on my BBC 454 boat, the first had a rear panel that fell off and the caulk buckled and broke. The reel failed and we had to tow back to the marina. he had about 5 hours of work with the MSD ignition box. The second coil took a ride before it also failed, the back cover was loose and again the potting compound inside was bulged and cracked exposing the coil's innards. It's not a good product, it's not well made. Would not recommend…

Excellent in everything except rubber isolation mounts

Excellent in everything except rubber isolation mounts. One broke after 15 km run. Checked with MSD and you can tightly mount this coil as it is a fully sealed unit so I will. This is the only reason for 4 stars. Mounts are just cheap. In terms of performance, I drive a little richer so that I don't melt when I have bad fuel in everyday life. This spool really helped with low to mid RPM starting and running. Well made, all the connectors needed for the installation were in the box. I have also…

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Newer model could have been chosen

The only way for some of us!

I bought this to solve a problem I was having on my '87 Plymouth which had a HEI ignition replaced and the ballast resistor removed. Constant full 12 volts on the canister's oil coil would heat it up and let the car sit if it got too hot (about 30-40 minutes of running time). These Blaster SS coils are a great solution for people like me installing HEI style ignition where HEI has no earthly meaning (like on a Mopar, Jeep or Ford). Takes all 12V on the go and delivers more power to the…
