WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND PRODUCTS! BEWARE!

worst customer service and worst product! I had problems with the modem and router combo I bought. I bought these products to replace an old Actiontec modem that we had for a number of years in the hope that our home Wi-Fi would improve. Well, the internet would work just fine, and then once a month or so it would stop working altogether. Called Netgear about 4 times in the first 90 days. Every time I spoke to them on the phone for about an hour, they walked me through a few steps and…

This item was very cheap and did exactly what I needed.

This article was very cheap and exactly what I needed. I have 2 Raspberry Pi 3s (one as a NAS and own cloud server), the other as a Kodi set top box - each connected to a different router. I need to SSH into these boxes on a regular basis and wanted them to be available regardless of the router I'm currently connected to. I use it as a hotspot on my network. This allows my first router to handle DHCP and provides a single network with no subnet. This is important if you want your devices to…

Pros
  • Good workmanship
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

Lucky it didn't arrive working.

My 9-YO N300 WiFi router stopped working so I bought a newer model with antennas. When I connected this new one to my cable and my computer, it had no output. LAN outlets connected to things like a desktop computer, security system, or other device with an Ethernet cable did not transmit a signal between the router and the device. I verified that the cables are working properly by plugging them directly between the modem and the computer and they worked fine, so the problem was isolated to the…

  • Excellent overall performance

  • The list will be long.

Now it works much better. Many Thanks.

THIS UPDATE TO MY REVIEW: The wireless router is now working properly after following Wang's advice on wireless speeds. I'm posting it below so anyone reading this but can't find the solution can get it here in their own words. You need to log into the router and go to the "Advanced" tab, then to "Configure and Configure QoS". Uncheck Enable WMM (Wi-Fi Multimedia) settings and apply them. After I did that my router went back to normal just like the post said. Hope this works for you too. This…

Don't walk, RUN!: Networking Products

I really felt I should review this product. I installed this router for my only laptop in the living room which is about 15 feet from the bedroom where the router was located. The connection was strong, about 4-5 cycles, but when I use the internet it's incredibly shaky. Sometimes the speed test goes to 40Mbps, sometimes 5. Or my favorite, it starts at 10 and then after 30 seconds the internet dies completely. Even with my laptop right next to the router, I sometimes only got 5 Mbps. After a…

So far, so good for routers

I immediately did a WLAN speed test and achieved 90+ Mbit/s with just one connected device. I rebooted today (2 days after install) with two devices connected via WiFi and one device wired and came back with the same speeds (attached screenshot).

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • Almost never

Niche market. for networking products

OK I should have added a screenshot. I ran speed tests before and after installing a wireless router. My computer was connected directly to the modem, so it was 110 Mbps, but when I connected it to this router for a direct connection, the speed dropped to 72 Mbps... Seems like a big drop, but always still REALLY good. My wireless devices went from 5-8Mbps to 30Mbps! Huge increase in WiFi speed. I'll update this review in a few months, but for now I'm VERY happy! --- UPDATE --- After about a…

Don't trust Netgear tech support promises

There were serious problems with this router, it didn't assign an IP to my printer. I called Netgear support (they advertise a year of product support) and the rep tried to sell me a paid support package saying the support only covers one connected item (I said one item is my printer ). - they said they only count a laptop as an item, not a printer). I asked to speak to the manager and was told they would call me back within a few hours (that was 4 days ago, the call never came). I do not…

Pros
  • Not just useful for its intended purpose
Cons
  • boring packaging

Return to Revane, you go!

Been using it for a week now. I've run out of fingers and toes from being "out of touch" so often. I'm also a little annoyed that I just tried to log in to routerlogin.net and was greeted with the following error message. 401: Unauthorized: Access to this resource was denied, your client did not provide proper authentication. The last time I saw this was after the last firmware update on my Netgear AC1450, the firmware update wiped it out and started to get bogus showing a 401 error like this…
