Annoying negatives are balanced with super fast speeds!

I'm getting speeds on my iPhone with Wi-Fi through this hotspot that's as fast as if I was next to my router or connected to ethernet! Super Fast Speeds! 500 Mbps in and 500 Mbps in Gigablast. It would probably be even faster, but before I connect to that access point, I have an ethernet cable that goes to a Netgear 5-port 1GB switch. Websites and videos load either instantly or very quickly! My only complaint is with the setup process. On the plus side, the hotspot doesn't reset like a routerโ€ฆ

Slower than the 10 year old AirPort Extreme.

We suspected at home that our 10 year old Apple AirPort Extreme was causing Wi-Fi problems on the top floor of our home. Since we only used it as a WiFi hotspot, we figured we were getting the latest and greatest WiFi 6 hotspot that would keep us going for another 10 years. Unfortunately, the WAX610 is not. Regardless of how we set it up, the speed test with the WAX610 is around 30-50Mbps. This is after it's connected to 5GHz. When we plug the AirPort Extreme back in, we get around 100-120โ€ฆ

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • Lots of stuff

Stay away from this family of products. That does not work.

I bought 2 of these. The first one in my office worked flawlessly with an ORBI RBR50 as an access point. A good thing. The app you should be using is just poor quality and slow to respond, but the web was simple enough to get it up and running right out of the box. I bought #2 for my home to have IPSec in my office during the pandemic. And then the problems started. I connected it to WAX610 for WiFi and GC108PP for PoE. 75% of my IoT devices stopped working or were intermittent. But IPSec wasโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Simple and secure mounting on a wall or false ceiling using the mounting material provided.
Cons
  • Only available in white

Frustrating on several levels.

I bought the WAX610 and 620 in May 2021 only to find out there was no support for DFS channels. In this case, the original firmware was used, as well as the firmware that was current at the time. The Netgear specs list the DFS frequencies supported by the hardware, but they are not offered as an option on the AP's wireless settings configuration page. This is a major hurdle for users in metropolitan areas. This means that when using an 80MHz channel width, only two channels are available: 42โ€ฆ

Pros
  • Enables WPA3, network and client isolation, and rogue access point detection.
Cons
  • Big and chunky

I bought this hotspot to get rid of lag and stuttering on my Oculus Quest 2 with Virtual Desktop and it didn't disappoint, but I had a few caveats. I have a Netgear R8000-100NAR router which is perfect for my house and the 6 people that live here. The additional 5GHz AC stream was a great upgrade for my Netgear R6400 which was dying and requiring weekly reboots when it freezes. In any case, most of my family members don't have Wifi 6 devices, so 802.11ac is fine for them, and the overallโ€ฆ
