Newkiton Dovetail Marker Review

When I first received it I thought oh no! Again, impulse purchases. LAUGH OUT LOUD. But actually it's very nice. I've used it twice for two different dovetail projects. It's very easy. Very easy to use. And very well done. I recommend it for all woodwork, dovetail cutting.

This is a nice little tool. It could be done much better by simply adding a QR code that links the pack to a web page with detailed instructions, explanations, examples or even videos. Each instruction manual will add value that your packaging is completely lacking.

It confused me at first because I pulled all the way to the cut end on the dovetail, using it to mark "negative" tails that need to be cut on a board, and with the other "positive" tails. Pretty simple and cool bait for little money. Feels quite heavy and the tab resting on the board is correct.

Corners are accurate but it would be much better if the part crossing the end grain lined up with the corners so a line could be drawn across the end grain and then down around the corner. Instead you'll find that the 90 degree part actually stops in front of the face, so you can't even use it to mark the end line of the fibers even if you move it.

This handy little tool gives you 4 angle options. It's very easy to use. It seems well done. I just got this a few days ago and they are already asking for this review. However, I have used a friend many times and finally decided to get my own. Carving swallowtails by hand is fun and not as difficult as some people think.
