SMA Connection Issues

The device and the supplied antenna do not connect well. Unlike the other two devices I've used, this is mostly poorly connected resulting in almost no signal being received. I haven't diagnosed a device or antenna issue yet, but that's disappointing either way.

Pros
  • Absolutely Amazing!
Cons
  • Functionality

The second crumbled in his hand.

Last month I bought and returned two NESDR Nanos. Both have only been used a few times and have not been mishandled. Both fell apart in my hand and stopped working. In a word, they were a MAN. Now I'm waiting for the previously purchased Smart Nesdr to die as well.

Very Efficient SDR for Linux/Ubuntu Gnuradio

Worked for a few weeks and just died but I contacted NooElec Inc and they offered me a solution to replace it. Very good support and very helpful staff in USA. I use it with Linux/Ubuntu Gnuradio Companion GRC to test SDR models. I was able to receive digital ISDB Tb TV signals.

  • Certified

Works great so far and much smaller than the mini!

See my detailed Pi3 review. I've used it in place of the larger NooElec mini for my stratux ads-b and it's working great so far! Time will tell if it will hold up as it gets quite hot when running but so far it's working great and I like the nice little form factor.

Pros
  • Good thing
Cons

Not worth it - satellite TV

I'm a radio amateur and it was a natural progression for me to try SDR. I've used web-SDR quite a bit, so I'm aware of the possibilities and expectations. No matter what I did, all I could get was local FM, and I mean local. There was a lot of blood and overall it wasn't worth my $25. If you're reading this assuming I'm just missing something or don't know what I'm doing and you're fine with no problems, good luck.

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
  • Boring packaging

Poor quality control

The first one received did not work (regardless of the computer and OS, the device did not appear on the USB bus, although it caught fire.) Returned defective, ordered a replacement . The replacement Mini 2 appears to have been assembled incorrectly (board backwards, no USB pins visible, no USB port fits). . Luckily for me it's very easy to get a refund, although I'd rather watch the falls while the device is running.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • There are cons

Works well. Great for AM/FM radio, not sure about other apps.

It took about 3 weeks, shipping overseas. Once received it is very easy to assemble and connect except that it was a hassle to set up. I recommend going to Youtube and searching "nesdr nano 2+ setup" to find out how to install the necessary SDR drivers etc. The only major concern I have is that the nano dongle gets very hot after 15 minutes of use, USB included. Stick a piece in and I'm worried it will eventually burn out if overused.

Pros
  • Cool product
Cons
  • Nothing here

Might as well buy a cheap unit

I bought a brand new unit in Feb 2021, it worked great on a remote raspberry pi for a little over 3 months then suddenly stopped working. Took the device out, brought it home, plugged it into my Mac and it still doesn't work. I have verified that this is not a software issue as I have two other RTL-SDR devices (from other manufacturers) and use the same software, everything works fine. However, when I use a Nano 2+ device, nothing works at all. If anyone has any suggestions for a small formโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • Clarity

You know better what you are doing and you have a lot of free time

Whilst this is a quality unit and has some merits I would recommend that you purchase something else if you are not very computer or radio proficient. While the NooElec website is complete, it doesn't really help you deal with the gimmicks that come with using it on a Windows or Linux PC. It is important to understand the drivers and the inevitable interference from other applications and their drivers. If you have more than one dongle, you'll need to find a free or paid serial port app toโ€ฆ

  • Alright!
