Too slow, easily beaten by a $20 camera from China.

I didn't get the advertised 5fps at 2592x1944 and 18fps at 1280x960. At 2592x1944 and 1280x960, the actual read sometimes becomes unresponsive for a minute and 0.7 fps. It's frustrating when it would be a great product. Only works well for solid slides!

MAKE. NO. BUY: Compound Microscopes

DO. NO. BUY Bought at the end of December. Excellent microscope. As long as it isn't. It turns out that the light box, which is crucial to using a microscope, has died. To make something useless. Then it turns out that the LED is not replaceable. I don't like that I have to give this place 1 star at all. It should be minus 100. I need this to make the dung of my herd of goats. Really terrible design. And waste of money. Thanks for nothing.

USB 2.0 camera and software not very good

I'm updating my rating from 1 to 3. The microscope is great and fun. The camera is the only weakness that seems to hold back USB 2.0 a lot. The frame rate is low (it's advertised as such) but to use the software I have to turn the video resolution down to medium most of the time or it throws out bad recording errors. Even on medium settings you sometimes get bugs and when it does the only way to avoid continuous bugs is to exit the software, disconnect the camera, re-enter the software…

Great scope at a great price

I love my OMAX. This is an amazing scope at a great price. I've used this more times than I can count - excellent lighting and clarity. I have used this primarily for soil biology and can clearly see and identify different types of nematodes, protozoa, amoeba and fungi, even distinguish between different types of bacteria, although it is difficult without the use of an oil float. You can tell the difference between red and white blood cells very clearly. I give 4 stars because I felt the camera
