Very happy with it

Helped my 2013 Specialized Secteur men's road bike fit into my decidedly slightly shorter torso. The frame of the bike fits me, but I just need to reduce the cockpit length a bit. I was constantly stretching a bit and this shorter 70mm stem (instead of 100mm) in addition to the stock Brooks B17 leather seat immediately made me more comfortable. I've also had Redshift aero bars plus a seatpost for a couple of years (highly recommend) and the new stem and seat have really improved overallโ€ฆ

Origin8 Pro Fit Alloy Ergo Stem, 1-1/8 " x 25.4 x 17 deg x 90mm

I felt a little over stretched on my bike. I wanted the standard one Replacing a 100mm stem brought this to 90mm. The construction and finish of the Origin8 was much better than the original. One note: the stack height of this stem is 40mm, my original stem was 45mm. I need to add an extra 5- Put a mm washer on the steerer tube to secure the top bolt that tightens everything properly. I also put some blue LocTite on the faceplate bolts to keep them from loosening.

Pros
  • Best in the niche
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other picks

I like this stem, it looks very expensive but has a good average price. This took to convert a flat bar bike to a bar. That 35 degree climb was just the right height for it (I'm 5ft 7" and the bike is a medium hybrid). However, I'm currently having trouble holding the screws tight. they completely detached while driving and I hope that was an accident (if the cables had been routed the day before and LBS could have detached them for some reason, but this is not necessary when installing theโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Big and bulky

Big vertical gain for more upright riding or to better fit your bike to you.

This stem gives you almost 2 full inches of vertical compared to a 90mm 6 degree stem. In other words, this 110mm stem brings the handlebars forward 90mm, as if your head tube had grown 2 slots. Light weight for what it is. I usually buy used Ritchey stems on ebay but these are almost impossible to find in 35 degrees. This stem also comes with inserts for older 25mm bars or so - I'll keep these as parts and I'm sure they'll come in handy someday. I would put something like this on a vintageโ€ฆ

Bad finish. quality fittings. Fur.

I finally broke down and admitted that I'm getting older and need to stay upright on the road. So I bought this rod as there are several options that would not be black or a wicked colour. The stick fits. It's cheaper than other origin8 products I've bought. The finish is terrible to boot. I'll probably learn to live with it, but there's nothing to be proud of. A bad finish will stick out like a deer's thumb if the bikes are properly equipped. But it is difficult to find polished rods or steelโ€ฆ
