Description of πŸ”“ Effortless Lid Opening Made Easy: OXO Good Grips Jar Opener with Base Pad

Jar Opener base pad keeps jar in place, reducing force required to open jar. Sharp, stainless steel teeth grip jar. Place it under the jar, slide the Jar Opener over the lid and twist counter-clockwise to loosen. Contoured, non-slip grip for better leverage. Jar Opener is dishwasher safe, hand wash base pad.

This remake is a lousy imitation that doesn't work

I have the original and wanted a different one for vacation rentals. This one doesn't open jars at all! It's cheaper, and the remake has a thinner grip area, so the 'teeth' tend to nick the lids rather than loosen them. I am extremely disappointed. Why change the original design that worked so well? The photo shows how much wider the grip area is in the original grip (note that the tip fits easily in the groove). The new model cannot hold a pen at all.

Doesn't work on marinade jar

I have a similar product from a spoiled chef that is still great 10 years later. I was hoping to buy this oxo for my mom. That does not work! I tried it on a jar of pickles and the teeth just slipped off and peeled the paint off the lid. I then tried it with my spoiled cook and it worked. Was hoping to find a cheaper alternative to a spoiled chef. It's not like this. The photo is attached, the spoiled cook has smooth sides and fewer and fewer teeth. Also, the spoiled chef's teeth zigzag like…

Poorly made, not up to OXO standards!

I had the original OXO can opener and it was to die for. Have been using it for at least 15 years with no problems. It broke when attempting to open a particularly difficult can. I threw it away thinking that after such use it owes me nothing. I ordered this one without realizing it was different. It's a piece of crappy plastic. The first thing that struck me was that it weighs at least half as much as the original. It slipped off every time I used it and scratched the metal of the can lids…

OXO joked a lot.

Such a disappointing design. Opening a jar is easier, but closing it is NOT PERMITTED. Before purchasing, I called OXO to ask about putting the caps on. The representative on the phone assured me the device would work both ways. She was wrong. When he arrived it became clear that I had been misled. Then they called again to ask about the closure. "No," said the representative. I suggested changing the design. It was nice, but I still wonder what the OXO designers were thinking. Has anyone…

It takes more power than I have.

I love Oxo products and am so disappointed with them. I read all the reviews about how easy it is to open jar lids and ordered. Trauma now requires my help. But he almost never opens the lids of the jars! It's difficult to press the V-shape against the lid hard enough for it to snag, and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for which type of lid will or won't open. The grip pad to hold the glass on the counter doesn't matter. You know what kind of lids jars have! Some of them are easy…

Pros
  • Happy so far
Cons
  • I'm nervous

I've read all the good reviews about this unit. But when we got it, it just didn't work. The teeth would not grab any of the lids of the jars we tried it on. They just scratched and slid along the lid no matter how hard we pressed the jar into the wedge-shaped area. Many reviews suggest people with severe arthritis may not be able to use this, but we're young and healthy and the device just won't work. I've had good experiences with OXO products in the past and for that reason I chose this tool

Pros
  • Easy setup
Cons
  • Poor set

This is the first OXO product that I have been dissatisfied with. Unfortunately, this can opener is useless. I bought this to replace an old OXO can opener that I had for years but for some reason disappeared. The old one had "jaw teeth" on both sides, while the new one only had teeth on one side. The other "claw" is made of polished metal, so it has no gripping surface. Even moderately tight covers will not open with this device. It slips off long before the lid moves no matter how hard I…
