Penn Plax Turtle Basking Platform Review

Arrived broken but with some glue and tape it's fine and we needed it so didn't have time to send it back. Our turtle loves this thing though! We had a float and he struggled to climb on it and then got too heavy for him. He spends half a day in this bath. It's in a 'tall' 20 gallon tank. I steadied the bottom with a rock to get the water deeper.

This platform is ideal for Axolotls. It's large, providing more floor space for critters that need extra space to romp around in the aquarium. My guess is that frogs and other land dwellers might use this in a terrarium setup. I've had them for over 3 years now and they haven't spilled or fallen apart or anything. They work well and the axolotls love them. I think I might start using them on crabs too. They pick up excrement and old food like crazy, but they wash away easily.

My turtle loves it! My turtle has grown huge and I need to build my own platforms. She has a hard time figuring out how to swim out and get out. I use it as a ramp so she can climb out of the water onto her platform. Now she sunbathes more. As far as wear and tear, no big deal. If you clean your tank once a week like I do, snap OR just pull the fringe until it finally stops. Thus, the threads are visible and it can no longer be torn. Over time it will stop crumbling. Nothing is perfect.

Read all other reviews and agree with Turf. I just want people to know what I did to fix this problem. I bought 2 of these and tied them together at the bottom and top to better warm up my 7 inch slider. We also removed the green sod and I built a ladder out of plastic tongue braces that I super glued to the plastic ramp so it could go up and down. That works great! I know it sounds like a lot but it was very easy and since there aren't many options for big turtles this worked for us!

I can't comment on how well this works on turtles, but on my axolotls it's amazing! They love swimming up and down the ramp, and they'll go upstairs when they get hungry to beg for their night snakes. lol I uploaded some pics of Marceline and Princess Bubblegum for reference. It's well made and has suction cups so you can place it anywhere and it stays down. Even if the turf loosens, it will be easy for me to put artificial turf or silicon stones there. DO NOT BUY THIS FOR TURTLES AND EXPECT TO USE THE GRASS TOP. My turtles ate grassy plastic lid! My poor turtles had plastic grass in their poop for months after I removed the top layer and replaced it with bath mat material.
