Better than sticking a piece of metal in it over and over again.

Currently used in a new cage. Much better than the fragile piece of metal that comes with the initial purchase of a squid. It's made of a very durable hard plastic that my cockatiel won't leave a mark on. I would also suggest that you remove the plastic stand and just place it on the end of a regular perch. don't risk a deadโ€ฆ

This is the perfect size for storing both large and small squid

This is the perfect size for storing both large and small squid. My parrot loves it. I like perch and sometimes just sit on it or do somersaults while watching other birds. So pretty! The small cup below is a great design. My birds scrape down a bit, it lands on the bottom bowl, then they eat the small shaved bits from underneath. That saves a lot of waste. I don't know if they recycle them because they like to do it for their bills or if they like the shavings they generate at the bottom ofโ€ฆ

Doesn't hold treats well

With nearly an inch of space between the back and the rod designed for treats, this squid holder only holds large items well. It's okay if you always buy big (fatty) squid or include fatty carrots or pieces of fruit with your birds. Small parts like thinner squid or millet spray fall out. Also, the rod, which attaches to 3 combs to choose from, doesn't hold the treats as firmly as the treat holder which I have replaced after 10+ years of flawless service. It also doesn't attach as tightly toโ€ฆ

Great for little parrots!

I have had my Ringnecked Parrot for many years and it will shed a squid within minutes. I should buy her big stones so they last a little longer. On the other hand, my green-cheeked kennel will enjoy it. If you've ever had trouble locking up those octopuses like I did, you should definitely get your hands on this handy little gadget. The holder is very easy to use and works well for small parrots. Just unscrew the rear handle and stick it to the cage. There is a latch to put squid in. You don't

The best squid holder ever used.

Update from 07/28/2020 I still use it. There are three in a cage. Two for bones and one for veggies. Another vegetable holder hangs from above. Won't let my pets fight. I really like the quality of JW products. Still highly recommend Update 2/7/2019 Bought a few more for my other cells. One of the best on the market. I've been using them for over a year. No fading, still the same sharp color. Original Review: Bought this for my pair of zebra finches, not realizing it was the BIG versionโ€ฆ

Great for storing veggies or pieces of fruit BUT SOME DANGERS

UPDATE: I can definitely see a parrot getting stuck upside down between the curved plastic rod and the holder. Today the holder was empty, but there was still some water at the bottom. I watched one of my birds lean over to get to the water and knew immediately that if it lost its balance it would get stuck upside down like the other reviewer did. Definitely get rid of that crooked perch, they don't need it. Set the device up next to one of their regular cage bars and they'll be fine. This is a
