Plextor was good - no more

after many shots on the SAW model I didn't want to burn a dual layer disc anymore. I bet I made 25 coasters in the last year. The SAF model kept coming back with a burning message overflow/underflow. I disabled screen savers, closed all open programs except Toast and moved them to the SSD, writing at 4x speed. 4X is the slowest setting and keeps saying that data isn't being received fast enough to be written to - really with an SSD? Other discs I have burn at 12x or more. Like many users, the…

PLEXTOR is THE BEST for burning music CDs!

THE BEST MUSICAL BURNER! For a year I struggled with not being able to burn a music CD (Windows Media Lossless Rip Best Quality + Medium Burn Speed) that would play on my DVD players and Jensen car player. This PLEXTOR box almost completely solved the problem (still some incompatibility with my SONY boombox). The PLEXTOR website describes how they designed this machine specifically for fidelity when burning music CDs, and I can vouch for that. But buy soon - PLEXTOR was about to be sold to…

Pros
  • Everyone likes it so far
Cons
  • Expensive insurance

Not what Plextor used to be

Compared to the 3 drives we've had in this desktop in the past, this drive is 'ready' slow and doesn't read all Discs on first try (too sensitive or something) and doesn't seem to be transferring data between HDD and MB very quickly. I cannot prove that these conditions match the description. Therefore, please note that this information comes solely from the "user experience" during use. We remember that Plextor was one of the best drives you could buy. This one seems cheap and works pretty…

Not yesterday's Plextor.

Plextor used to make the best optical drives on the market, but those days seem to be over. In fact, this drive looks pretty much the same as the crappy LG that came with my Cyberpower desktop, with a slight difference in the texture of the plastic frame and of course the name. This should have been 2 stars out of the box as the Plextor is $10 more expensive, but the ejection mechanism also broke right out of the box so I downgraded the rating to the lowest possible. One possible reason…

Possibly the best DVD burner I have ever used

I have used Asus DVD burners in the past but they have always failed within a year. Possibly because of cheap internal parts. I switched to this brand hoping I would have better luck and be more reliable in the long run. I've probably burned over 1000 DVD-Rs so far and can count the number of failed burns on one hand. It's so rare now that I haven't even bothered to "Record and Verify" in Imgburn. Burning at 8x or even 16x doesn't matter. The media I use is just average quality for the most…

Drive died less than a year later.

As other reviewers have said. Plextor no longer makes a quality product like it used to. I have always used their products in the past and they seemed to last forever! However, this lasted less than a year. It started acting "weird" just after the return period and became completely unusable a few months ago. Both the BIOS and the operating system recognize it, but the tray rarely opens, and when it does, it doesn't recognize or read the drive. You must then use the emergency eject hole to…
