Fairly good product

Fairly good product. The instructions weren't very good. The video says to look for a grey-brown wire under the driver's step plate. I didn't have a wiring harness behind my step bar in my '97 Dodge Dakota. Instead, there was an orange/black wire and a pink/black wire to the left of my clutch pedal. I was also told to use different holes when screwing in the actuator. Use 2000+ bores if you have a Dodge Dakota. After about 2 hours I finally installed it (partly it was at night in the dark with…

Had to return

Good idea but I think this model was made too versatile. This model is suitable for many trucks and in my case it could be a problem. On my 2011 Dakota, the bolts were aligned where multiple intersecting holes were drilled, so it was possible for riding vibration to cause the bolts to slide from one hole to the other and jam the lock in the locked position. Since my lid opens from the inside, this was a problem. The wiring guide was completely wrong in my case. Laying the necessary cables took…

work great Using longer screws makes life easier

Love this system. I installed it on my own 1995 GMC pickup. I originally had a pop lock panel protecting my tailgate and lost it. The plate required a separate key which I could use for 20 years until I lost it. That's the beauty of this system. The PL8100 connects to your automatic door locking system and locks when you lock the truck using the remote control or from inside. Very cool system. The instructions for hooking it up to your system are straightforward, and the only moderately…

Works great, terrible (and inaccurate) instructions.

Purchased for a 2007 Dakota. Despite what the instructions say, DO NOT attempt to connect any wire to the wiring harness on the rider footrest. Instead, connect the wire to the wire harness on the B pillar (the one where the driver's door closes). Connect the light green and brown/orange wires from the wiring harness inside the B-pillar (not the 'grey' and 'yellow' as the very vague instructions describe) and you will be successful. I had to find out the hard way and spent a lot of time looking

A locked back door will not be stolen.

Took this as insurance against the fact that I don't have a liftgate or heavy objects disappearing from my pickup. They have been stolen from several of my friends and paying 400-500 to get a replacement is just unrealistic. This is one of the reasons other people steal them. The instructions were pretty basic, but they're primarily for a Chevy pickup, so it's odd that they're used on a Dodge Dakota as well. There aren't any vehicle-specific instructions even on the website, so you might have…
