Review on ๐Ÿ”’ Power Tailgate Lock PL8100 - Enhance Chevrolet, GMC, Dodge, and Mitsubishi Models by Derrick Villarreal

A locked back door will not be stolen.

Took this as insurance against the fact that I don't have a liftgate or heavy objects disappearing from my pickup. They have been stolen from several of my friends and paying 400-500 to get a replacement is just unrealistic. This is one of the reasons other people steal them. The instructions were pretty basic, but they're primarily for a Chevy pickup, so it's odd that they're used on a Dodge Dakota as well. There aren't any vehicle-specific instructions even on the website, so you might have to do some guesswork during installation. It appears to be a solid block and you can hear it snap securely into place. It's a lot louder than the barely audible door locks on my pickup truck. The wiring harness is a pretty good length for my setup. After milling I had about 18 inches left and that was on a short platform 03 Quad Cab Dodge Dakota. If you have a large, long-deck, four-door pickup truck, you may need to increase the length of the seat belts. I also believe the wiring to the lock in the tailgate may need some extra extra to ensure it doesn't come loose. Even a small pull tab so you can tie the harness up so you don't just have a bunch of connectors holding it up in the air would be better. I used a zip tie around one of the screw mounts that secure the drive to the steel plate. I don't want something to catch on the wires and just pull them off. I know if something heavy hits them it can break the line, but that's understandable. Without this, a small wand can dislodge the connectors, which is unacceptable. If your truck is a few years old you can also buy a replacement frame as the tabs on mine didn't come loose and broke. With the panel extended, you can reach the tailgate and open it with a screwdriver. To me this is a much better option than a manual lock as it would always be a hassle to remember to lock it back and probably not to, defeating the purpose. When my doors are locked, my bed is locked, there's nothing to think about, nothing to fear.
