High Speed Steel (HSS) Jointer Knives for JET 708457K JJ-6CS, Set of 3 by POWERTEC - 6-Inch Review

The blades were well priced and now I understand why. After ONLY 9 passes of clear walnut, all 3 blades are shiny and chipped from regular use. Let me say that again, 9 passes. The 9 edges are connected and the damage to the blade is already visible. Can't say I recommend these blades for anything other than spruce and pine. This is also a route. Completely disappointing. But I think you get what you pay for, mild steel blades that lack sharpness.

knives exactly as described - better than stock jet knives. They were fairly sharp but had a slight burr on the edge. I was able to remove the burr with just a few flat strokes on my thin flat diamond steel. Ready in less than a minute. At less than a third the price of jet knives at my local carpentry shop and of equal or better quality, I would definitely buy them again. Shipping took about 10 days so plan for that.

I bought a used jet planer and have used it on many, many home renovation projects. It wasn't a smooth cutter, but I didn't care. Now I have a new house and I wanted it to be really suitable for woodworking projects. These blades were very advantageous. Half the price of a sharpener, it's easy to install, align, and get back to work. There are knife alignment tools on the market, but all a person really needs is some sort of ruler and a working brain. Jigs are a waste of time and money.

To be clear my expectations were not very high given the cost. After that has been said. Everything seems fine from the packaging, the sharp one seemed to have a decent bevel. After adjusting/leveling, my depth of cut was 0 so I could crawl up and get an accurate 1/32 inch per pass. Did 5 or 6 passes on the 2x4 to dial in the bed. Then it went on to a piece of 5/4" x 3" maple. Face docked (maybe 4 passes) the results were great. At this point I was very excited about my new knife pick chips…
