not pretreated and very rough surface even with lots of oil and only medium heat everything got stuck and cleaning was painful had to pull out the brillo pad but it's really heavy and holds one withstood heavy use. Just make sure to season it a few times before using it, or use a different brand.

It has a very rough surface. I would look for another with a smoother finish in terms of cleaning and maintenance. The only decent feature is a small area on one end of the plate for fat accumulation. The food is still dirty and greasy even though there is room for grease at the end of the pan. The surface is too rough.

So this pan works really well except for one thing I noticed while making hamburgers for 9 people recently. I had to use this pan as well as the round cast iron I have. The surface of this rectangular pan is quite rough and the meat tends to stick to it. The round pan is much smoother and the burgers not only cook faster, they also brown better on the top. First of all I consider this item to be a fire hazard. After seasoning it (which prevents rusting mentioned in some reviews) I cooked some medium quality bacon on the side of the grill. The product arrived misshapen which caused some of my issues but also the lip is so flat the fat from 4 pieces of bacon almost ran over it. If, like me, you have a gas stove, fat can start a fire. I won't even give it to another unsuspecting person; I'll throw that away. I assume the company won't accept returns

This pan has very little flex as mentioned by others (I assume this was not removed during production). But it's a good, heavy piece of cast iron, and for my culinary purposes at least, it will do very well. As other reviews have noted, the texture is rough, but I don't see that as a problem. I will use it to sear chicken and steak on the ribbed side and sometimes pancakes on the flat side. We recently got some cast iron pans for our propane stove camping trips. This pan is exceptional value. It's big enough to hold plenty of bacon strips, a few eggs, and even chopped potatoes to cook all at once. Cleaning was easy. Wipe or pour on grease, rinse and dry quickly and it's ready to go again. I bought this grill a year ago and it just keeps getting better and better. I use one flat surface for pancakes and sandwiches and the other side for grilling. Others have said the grill warped, mine didn't. My stove is kind of weird, one burner hotter than the other, so I have to adjust the burners accordingly when cooking pancakes and sandwiches to keep them from burning.
