Description of πŸ”© 500g Proto Pasta Composite Iron 1, 75mm Filament

Magnets stick to this material and Printed parts made with it. Material is matte Grey with a cast metal look. Surface can be rusted with a water mixture for an age distressed look. Processing is comparable to standard PLA. No heated bed required. Process may be less consistent on smaller nozzles (. 4mm) and or Bowden Type machines. We recommend printing this material at 190c-230c using a 4 mm or larger nozzle. Please Note that this filament is more brittle than normal PLA and requires more careful handling to prevent breaking. Designed and manufactured in the USA with quality and customer service as a top priorities. Usa sourced packaging and labour.

Wonderful filament, although can be difficult

I've printed over 14kg (32lbs) of PLA Magnetic Iron, which is probably more than any other filament I've ever used. What I love about this yarn is the realistic look once the print has rusted. This is particularly useful as I work in the railway industry where many of the prints are for display purposes and the rusty look immediately catches people's attention - see attached photos of the reduced R36 switch post. Although this thread has its caveats. First off, I've found that a geared extruder

The best iron-filled PLA.

I have used 3 spools of this filament in my Lulzbot printers for various projects. The key takeaway is that while at least 3 other competitors are selling metal-filled PLA composites with copper, brass, bronze, etc., there is simply no other competitor (to my knowledge) that offers readily available PLA mixed with iron powder. Luckily, Proto-Pasta's Magnetic Iron PLA is pretty good. In my experience, printing with it can be either easy or impossible, depending on various factors. For me, PLA…

Bad thread for the average person.

Ok to be honest I'm sorry to give such a negative review on this product as most people seem happy with it and maybe I just expected too much from it but Anyhow, here is what I experienced. The filament is very fragile and even though they make it clear in the description, it's still annoying. My 3D printer always puts a little tension on the filament even when you load the filament so despite being careful I still had the filament snap once, no big deal when it's removed but if it breaks and…
