Easy to install, quiet ride, performs poorly in mud

Thing works well in dry conditions. In the mud it can bind the chain due to the sharp entry and exit angles at the guide. 2 minutes to install - I didn't have to remove the chain or re-route the derailleur cable. When the straps are tight, they are snug and won't slip. Remains quiet throughout the shifting range (3x8), keeping the chain where it should break free from jumps and wheels, and keeping the rattle at the roots.

Pros
  • Easy setup
Cons
  • Weight

Odd fit, off center and noisy

I ended up removing it from my bike because it made more noise than the chain before. Installing the chain guide was easy but it didn't seem to fit my frame like it should and after about a week the 3m tape stopped holding. The chain makes a noticeable "hum" as it passes through the chain and rubs against the chain guide wall. (It also destroyed part of the guide chain) I don't think I can recommend this as it seems to have caused more problems than it solved.

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Nothing

Works great with the 3 drivetrain components

Bought this for my son's 3x7 drivetrain hardtail mountain bike. The chain didn't fall off easily, but we started riding a downhill lift park and I wanted an added reassurance that his chain would stay in place. Our first foray into the park before the chain tensioner fell in half. On the next ride with the tensioner, the chain never broke even in the smallest gears, it even cracked and the wheel threw itself on its side against the stones, the chain stayed! We've ridden about 30 miles since…

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Poor Design: Pulleys

Looked impressive when I received it, but when I went to install it quickly found its flaws. The nut holding the bolt that holds everything together is built into the recessed hole. But while the hole is the correct hex shape for the nut to fit in, it's too big so the nut just spins in the hole. Worse, you can't put a wrench, socket, or anything else on the nut to keep it from turning because the nut is recessed and there's just the tiniest amount of play. There is enough play to not hold the…

  • Great Construction

Best value, easy installation

I purchased this Quintessentialz mountain bike chain guide as part of my bike conversion from 3x10 drivetrain to 1x10 drivetrain. I use this with a narrow wide oval 32t chainring and have kept the same 10 speed chain and rear derailleur. The SRAM X7 rear derailleur probably has enough tension that I don't have to worry about it not having a clutch, but it seemed like a good idea to add a guide to avoid chain slap. Sure, there are nicer chain guides out there, but all the other options will set…
