Useless garbage. Locks and had to be cut off

I bought this for my wife's new Dodge Ram1500. We trained with him three times and he worked well. Two weeks ago I tried to tow something and the lock didn't work. regardless of lubrication and 31 attempts at a lock. The key was inserted into the butt, exited the latch head, but the head did not disengage. The journey was delayed by 2 hours.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Requires outlet

Not so great. - Trailer products and winches

Lasted a little less than 2 years. The rubber stopper fell off, the lock jammed, then a cheap key broke off inside. To be honest it wasn't that hard to drill. Removed the lock in 15 minutes. It might have been quicker if the key hadn't broken off there and I knew what I was doing. Maybe that's a bug in the bullet system. I paid extra for stainless steel. The block itself was in good condition. No rust. Just corrosion in the lock.

Pros
  • Nice deal
Cons
  • Great price

DO NOT BUY! CORROSED AND NOW COLLAPSED ON MY TRUCK!

DO NOT BUY! After only a few months of use with the included rubber cap protecting the lock, the barrel lock has somehow frozen/corroded and won't open. The lock pops out with the key, but it's in there. Currently THIS CANNOT BE REMOVED from my truck, jeopardizing our hike tomorrow. At least I have a day to come up with something. Check your gear beforehand and don't trust Reese's junk!

Works great, 5 years old and still working.

I bought this locking pin 5 years ago to replace a Masterlock version that was left in a rental car. The Reese pin has worked great all along the Atlantic coast of Florida, but I also make sure to lube it regularly (123 oil is fine) and not leave it on the hitch unnecessarily. Take care of your gear and it will take care of you. Great product, I would buy again and can only recommend it.

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not all fit

Latch mechanism rusted

This hitch was installed in 2016 and when I tried to remove it to make a hooligan move and attach a bike rack I couldn't remove it. I had to tap on it with a hammer and punch to find that the locking ball was completely rusted and corroded. It is described as a stainless steel item and should have been reported with the stop ball not installed. I bought two and both are rusty. It's disappointing because I bought them because of the reputation the Reese have.

So far so good, good quality

I read the whole review and it seems that the main problem is the corrosion of the lock. I like the construction and it looks like it will be very strong and will hold up. But I will report every 4-5 months. I decided to spray the lock and locking balls inside and out with CRC grease and rust inhibitor. Let's see if that helps against rust. One problem I encountered was the initial installation of the lock. There is an o-ring which I believe is to keep water and dirt out of the lock and locking

This lock is great if you never need to unlock and remove it.

I bought based on the manufacturer's reputation and didn't read the product reviews first. I received the lock and decided to test it out first before installing it on the car and I'm so glad I did. The lock fitted with no problems. Then when I tried to unlock and release the lock, it wouldn't open. After trying to disconnect for about 30 minutes, I decided to turn to the internet to see what I was doing wrong. It turns out that the ball bearings that "lock" the device don't retract when theโ€ฆ

Exactly as expected - reliable and works well

Update 09/07/21: 15 months on the truck with no problems; it still locks and unlocks like new. Note. I put a drop of grease or liquid film on the ball bearings and wipe off the excess every time I take the pin out - maybe 4 times in the last year or so. A little preventative maintenance will stop the corrosion that occurs if you just leave it to the weather (see negative reviews). Likes: unreliable waffle lock, like 99% of other products (including the replacement product), safe ball, a bearing

  • Hard to say
