THIS REFRESH FILTER FITS IN PLACE OF CRAFTSMAN 17816, 9-17816. Will fit Craftsman older model vacuums with some modification. DETACHABLE TOP PLASTIC CAP to ensure fit for use with most 5, 6, 9, 12, and 16 gallon and larger vacuums made after 1988. CAPTURES sawdust, wood chips and vehicle dirt without clogging. PLEASE CONTACT US if you have any questions about whether this model is compatible with your filter! Customer satisfaction is our top priority, and we want to be sure you are receiving the correct filter. NOTE: Filter cap not included; if your vac features a screw down connector, we recommend you re-use your existing cap.

Does not fit at all directly

. Bought in anticipation of direct replacement, it's not! The end cap that says 'no' in the description is part of the filter but has a lip that prevents the factory nut from grabbing the threads making it useless. I've tried removing the plug and installing the original plug that came with the vacuum, but it doesn't fit the filter. I had to remove the new connector, cutting off the protrusion with a razor blade so it could be used. it doesn't fit but I need it for a project I'm working on so…

Not a direct replacement for my WD16500 hard drive which requires VF4000

This filter is very well designed, but is not a direct replacement for the Rigid specification. I call for the VF4000. Eventually I managed to get it to fit, but not without some ingenuity and scolding to carve enough under the lid to make it fit. The cage tower below the filter is slightly higher than this standard filter. Maybe better buy an adapter from Amazon "Kopach replacement filter cap for craft and rigid vacuum cleaners" (I haven't tried it yet, but it seems to fit for this filter by…

Will not fit without modification.

If the filter had soft rubber flanges on both ends it would be ideal. However, one end has a hard plastic cap that prevents the use of a wing nut. I saw another customer clip the edge of the hard plastic to thread a nut. I went the other way as the cap and nut fitted the end of the soft flange perfectly. The hard end is easy to remove completely, just pushing it away from the inside is enough. This inner plastic ring is still too big for the vacuum cleaner, so it needs to be reduced. I traced…
