Update: Welding problems were not observed. Managed to release the stuck sliding section with a light tap and so far it hasn't re-locked. Used for a time to hold a heavy piece of wood for a jackknife job and held everything in place. I'm starting to look into this case more, but I need more time. I bought one of these in 2012 and have used it almost every day since then. The main reason I chose this particular block was its ability to clamp a sheet of 4x8 plywood. It will clamp a sheet of plywood really securely! From a safety point of view, that helped me a lot. I have never had a jaw horse before and have decided to buy this new model Sheetmaster instead of the original. It was a bit more money, but the added features and ability to handle 48-inch wide sheets without buying additional adapters were a bonus.
