Great device for a laptop on a 10G network

USB NIC is easy to install and works well. During operation, it gets warm, but not hot, which is a plus. Be sure to download the latest drivers from the Realtek website if you are using Windows. If you are connecting to a 10GBaseT sfp+ module and your download speed is slow, you may need to set the baud rate on the switch port. This is usually an issue with the switch and sfp+ adapter as they negotiate different speeds.

Actually worse than my stock network adapter

I upgraded to 2GB fiber but I knew my laptop's network adapter didn't have higher speeds this fiber offers. It was advertised as a 2.5GB NIC and most reviews showed that it worked. Multiple days of testing with multiple configurations and all I get with this device are much slower download and upload speeds. In fact, I'm getting about 30% of the speed I'm getting with my standard network card. Don't waste your money on it.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • I have no negative feelings about it, everything is fine

Very poor Linux support

Two of these adapters on two NUC8s with Debian and Proxmox. When using Debian 10 and Proxmox 6, the driver recognized the adapters and kept the speed at 10G for several hours or even days before completely freezing (the interface became unavailable). After upgrading to Debian 11 and Proxmox 7 in hopes of better driver support, it's not even recognized anymore. Even after compiling the driver from source (Atlantic driver), BIOS update, TB firmware, Sabrent firmware, it still doesn't work. If you

Excellent USB network adapter adapter

Set up was very easy once I plugged it in. This is my first adapter from Sabrent, but it is the third adapter I have had to purchase for my laptop. The first two had a bad physical connection. One was very loose in the computer's USB-C port, the other didn't hold the ethernet cable far enough to make contact. My expectations were low but it has good metal construction, solid. Connects to a USB-C port, but they don't do much with Ethernet. Very satisfied. I also like that the power, link, and…

Doesn't offer 2.5Gbps - connects to a 1Gbps ethernet adapter

Well I can't say enough about a product that offers 2.5Gbps advertises and actually works like a standard 1Gbps adapter. !I have extensively tested the adapter in conjunction with a 10GbE multi-gigabit switch and a non-active 10GbE network NAS. Basically it ran at 1.2Gb/s at boot at times and wasn't stable, more on the order of a standard 1Gb/s adapter! The downloads were even worse, the speed was 700/800 Mbe! This has been tested with the latest adapter drivers with both the new USB-C and USB…

Looking for decent 2.5Gbe transfers?

I looked at different ways to connect to the QNAP 10 GBE port. I compared the ASUS 10Gbe internal card and this 2.5Gbe card. Of course, the Asus card is better, but since most boards aren't already built that way, it occupied a 16x slot on my x570 motherboard. It's hard to pass up, especially if you're trying to run water-cooling lines, and this card puts out a significant amount of heat. It's not as good as a 10Gbe card, but the direct wired connection speed to my Qnap 963 still works very…

10G Adapter - annoying shutdown on MacBook Pro

Pros: • Fast. The read and write speeds are more than sufficient for 4K ProRes videos connected to the QNAP NAS - see the attached speed test image. • Compact size 5 x 3 x 1 inch. • Quiet, passively cooled, bus powered. • Newer than other 10G adapters on the market • 2 year warranty Cons: • Doesn't "wake up" on Mac startup. The Thunderbolt bus detects it, but there is no data connection to the NAS. Disconnecting and reconnecting the TB cable after waking up Turn on the device to establish a…
