Don't buy this - you will regret it!

I'm just giving a start because zero doesn't fit. This is one of the most frustrating and limited technologies I've ever owned. I had two of these and spent a total of 4 hours on the phone with Samsung tech support and 10 hours alone. However, this does not work. The instructions are terrible, the support is limited and the thing is unusable. It permanently disables Wi-Fi and needs to be within 10 feet of the Switch to work.

Pros
  • Requires Android (6.0 or later) or iOS (11.0 or later)
Cons
  • Low maintainability

Terrible device: Electrical

You must be using the latest version of the Smartthings app. to set up this device. If you don't, you'll be asked for a welcome code that doesn't come with the device. If you try to install the latest SmartThings app, you will get a message that your device is not supported. You also cannot set up the device from a computer. I think you need to buy a new phone or tablet to run the app you need. I ended up setting up the device with a new iPhone for family members and a new Smart Things app…

Hub update v2

I've updated my 2nd gen SmartThings hub (Ethernet only) and so far this new 3rd gen hub is working fine. I like the fact that it supports WiFi. -Fi I can now place the hub in a more central location. However, there are some caveats. First I had to use the new SmartThings app to add this hub to my account. The new SmartThings app is nice, but lacks many features of the old SmartThings Classic app. For example, I can't add devices using my custom device handlers to a new app. And some of the…

Garbage! Keep your distance, suitable for electronic devices

I don't usually write reviews but felt it was necessary to warn potential buyers about this infamous product. First, I've been in technology for over 25 years and used to own a home automation company. I am currently working for a global cybersecurity company and I think I will have experience installing a basic home automation product. First off let me say this product is absolute rubbish, stay away! If a company as mature and global as Samsung can't offer a deployment (setup) process that's…

Pros
  • Improved do-it-yourself solution: Improved landing prompts for easier setup. The hub connects via Wi-Fi, so no need to connect an Ethernet cable
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled

$70 Frustration Box

EDIT: I finally got it working. It took seven - SEVEN - factory resets and poking around the Smart Things website in a deeply buried place that allowed me to edit the default save locations, which seemed to be the key to getting it working somehow properly. In any case, I connected my devices to the hub and created the rules I needed. However, Bixby is terrible at it. Voice recognition leaves a lot to be desired. I have an Echo Dot and it's much more reliable. A week later, this device could…

It just - didn't - didn't work!

Purchase of a hub and 2 sensors. The setup was successful and everything worked fine for a day. Then the sensors would disconnect from time to time and I couldn't reconnect them despite following the advice on the site multiple times. I contacted support via email and followed their instructions to disable the hub. While it worked once, it didn't work another time. I also removed the batteries from the sensors (there is no recommendation for this on the website) and it worked at least once. But

Fairly easy transition

I was informed that Iris, my previous home automation system, was shut down at the end of March 2019, so I immediately ordered a SmartThings hub as a replacement. It didn't hurt that it was one of Lowe's recommendations and that the vast majority of my devices would pass. Installation and migration were fairly painless. I unplugged each of my wearable devices one at a time and immediately connected them to Smartthings. I had an issue with a device that required phone support from Smartthings to
