Retro bear traps for old BMX riders

So these aren't expensive pedals like Hutch bear traps, but they're just as good at holding your shoes in place (and tearing your shins apart).

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • There are nuances

The best pedals ever! the best in cycling

There's a reason the Bear Trap existed before I was born. They haven't changed over the years. Tough and sharp. Would recommend to anyone who is fed up with slippery pedals or just wants an upgrade.

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • Compatibility

Like the best bikes of the 80's

As a kid I had bear traps for my bike. When I saw them while looking for parts to turn a beach cruiser into a bling I had to buy them. I think they cost about as much as what I paid for them in the 80's. These are strong and durable pedals.

Pros
  • Weight
Cons
  • Operating speed

The bearings are not sealed.

I really liked the initial quality of these petals. They look and feel great. However, after 5 months of almost daily driving, the left bottom bracket is dead and creaks terribly. No wonder they don't have sealed bearings. Not suitable for MTB, that was my fault. I can't say I would buy them again.

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • There are defects

Not bad for the price, looks good, the spindle is too tight

They are good for the price. I wouldn't call them high performance at all. Spindle screw too tight. I had to take them apart and take them all apart. Works well so far, however the left pedal seems to tighten up again by spinning while riding. I am satisfied with the price and the appearance.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Don't really like it, everything is fine

great old school

Fits well but the threads were a little short and didn't go all the way through the cranks but strong enough to withstand the abuse I put them through. Even after several extremely rocky rides on these trails, the reflectors are still attached to the pedals. The teeth are almost too sharp, watch out for the leg/calf! you will bleed Overall 9.9 out of 10.

Pros
  • new
Cons
  • almost never

Perhaps the options used should be avoided.

Times are tough so I decided to save $6 by purchasing the like new used option. It turned out to be a bug, the races were rusty and corroded, almost didn't move. I spent quite a bit of time taking the pedals apart, thoroughly cleaning the loose bearings and doing my best to smooth out the rust on the bearing races before relubricating them with molybdenum. They seem to work well, but I don't recommend used options no matter what condition they claim to be in. As I have no experience with theseโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
