Description of 🔧 Shankly Universal Ball Joint Separator - Effective Tie Rod Tool for Removing Stubborn Ball Joints from Spindle - Ideal for Front Wheel Cars. Ball Joint Remover with Durable Steel Body and Bolt.

A POWERFUL BALL JOINT TOOL: This ball joint separator tool splits ball joints, tie rods, anti-roll bar mountings, and helps with everything an automotive repair shop needs in ball joint and tie rod replacement. TOTALLY CONVENIENT: Tie rod end tool with a wide opening at 17mm (product length 25 mm), it can be used on most front wheel drive auto vehicles. Not ideal for all large SUV's. Much more maneuverable than traditional pickle fork. LONG USE AND DURABILITY: Shankly's ball joint puller has a heat-treated drop forged steel body in order to handle long and rough usage. It’s a tool designed to hold first place in every mechanic’s tool kit. AGILE AND CLEVER: In places where limited space prevents use of a direct action method, the Shankly ball joint tool will spread ball joints easily, thus helping the mechanic maneuver in tight spaces faster, easily, and effortlessly. UNIVERSAL AND RELIABLE: Shankly's ball joint removal tool is suitable and operating on the majority of domestic and import front wheel drive vehicles.

Quality but narrow

Quality tool, didn't fit the bottleneck on my Camry 04 and the ball joints were bigger than the fork but I can use them on the tie rod ends on both my cars. It would be nice to have a bigger bore or dimensions but ground clearance is still an issue for my car. There are so few that the crown nut could not be completely detached.

  • Made by
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Easy to use and reliable tool!

This is an excellent tool for small ball joints. For example, on my Chrysler 300, it's perfect for the upper ball joints, but too small for the lower ball joints. That's fine because for the money it's worth buying and it allows smaller ball joints to be removed with ease. It is well designed and well built. It's easy to set up and has indentations on both ends that keep everything perfectly centered during use.

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • There are more interesting options.

For smaller ball joints

The tool is reliable and well suited for smaller ball joints as used in modern front wheel drive vehicles. It didn't fit the 1968 F-body, the hole just wasn't wide enough and I had to resort to a good old cucumber yoke to disconnect the ball joint. I have used it successfully for tie rods and it has worked beautifully. If you understand that this doesn't work on all ball joints and consider your application, I would have no hesitation in recommending this tool.

  • Easy adjustment

Not big enough for 2006 Infiniti M35 Tie Rod Ends

Barely fits 2006 Infiniti M35x Tie Rod Ends; the tool had to be expanded to the limit. I tightened the tool until it looked like it would break; I had to hold the tool while tightening it with the wrench or the tool could come loose from the tie rod since I was putting so much effort into tightening. I removed the tool and with one hit of a sledgehammer the tie rod was loose (same story on both sides). Maybe that weakened it for me; I was expecting the tie rods to come loose.

Pros
  • Sequins
Cons
  • Faulty

Cannot rate this tool as it does not fit my cars. Bought a lever ball joint removal tool for a 2002 Audi Allroad C5. The U-yoke hole is not wide enough to fit on the ball joint. You will need a tool with a .940" hole to install around the ball joint shaft. Same problem with 2007 Mercedes GL450 front upper ball joint, U-hole not wide enough. The photos show the tool and upper ball joint on a 2007 Mercedes GL450. , Audi does not have fotkal, but the same problem.

Works but may not be suitable for all applications

This ball joint cage did the job, but barely. If the screw used to adjust the opening height was a half inch longer, it would fit taller ball joints. On my 2012 Ford Fusion, the ball joint end of the front lower tie rod took up almost all of the height available for this tool and I still had to press on the top of the ball joint. PROS: Easy to set up and use. Looks solid enough for most jobs. No need for power tools for the job. CONS: Requires two buttons to set/use. Can get tight in some…

A good tool if needed.

I've used this twice in the shop, the first time on the very first day I brought the tool in. This tool is better suited for ball joints that you are not replacing and when other pullers fail for some reason. While it's not ideal for tie rods. Either Shankly's tool doesn't open wide enough, or simply put, a hammer breaks the thrust from its taper much quicker. I prefer swing arm pullers for this job. The great thing about this tool is that it includes a handle and the drive bolt is tuned to…

Works on 2004 Mustang tie rods but not ball joints.

Works great on tie rods on a 2004 Mustang. The tool comes with no instructions, and the website directs you to a youtube video that doesn't explain how to use the tool, so you're a bit 'on your own' to figure it out. I loosened the middle screw to allow the tool to slide over the turnbuckle, then tightened it so that the top of the tool was mostly flat, and then adjusted the back screw so it just touched the top of the tool. Then I put the 22mm socket on a 1/2" ratchet and tightened it as much…
