🐴 Deluxe Grass Muzzle for Horses by Shires Review

Do not follow sizing feedback. I ordered mine based on what others have said and it didn't work. It's too small which is a shame because it was great seemingly durable quality. I haven't had time to wait for another one due to my horse's health, but I plan to order a larger size as a replacement.

Fits my horse well and the fleece doesn't chafe on his nose. There are some minor abrasions on her jaw from the lower strap. I had to adjust it a few times to get it tight enough after finding it out in the pasture, but now it stays in place and she doesn't seem to mind. It took my mare a few tries to figure out how to feed her, but she grazes beautifully. That's exactly what we needed!

Ordering things for horses that fit donkeys can be a problem. This size fits our smaller standard donkey very well. It weighs about 270. The corn on the cob works well on our larger little standard (it weighs about 360). Hope that helps. They took it pretty well too, apart from the initial "shameful" look. I think they also like it when the flies don't bother them waiting to put them on every morning.

This is a good muzzle, but only suitable for Arabians with a small muzzle. I tried it on my medium head size Morab 15.1 and it turned out to be too small. He could neither graze nor breathe well. It went well with my very refined 14.2 Arabian. Stays in place well but I had to add sheepskin to the crown to keep it from rubbing against my hair. At the same time, EVERYTHING about this beautiful-skinned Arab erases hair. You almost have to cotton it up to ride it with a tack.

Fleece really helps with chafing. Fits good. Good quality. Also add shock absorbers to the straps on the bar and under the jaw to avoid chafing. As with all pasture muzzles, my gelding managed to slip it over his ears, but the design allowed me to slip the ruff easily through the loops in the buffer at the top and that held it in place. appears to be a quality muzzle. The fit on my Haflinger and Painthorse with this muzzle is snug but comfortable. I like fleece. However, this muzzle is difficult to put on and take off as the only attachments are the double Velcro straps. Great for safety but a real pain getting on and off a horse. I have tried different brands for my mare who has a warm blooded head but a narrow nose. She also proved to be very sensitive and was often rubbed or irritated by other products. Such a muzzle sits much more comfortably on it and does not rub. I don't need extra covers or capes to keep the muzzle from rubbing. She can still remove the muzzle if she squeezes it hard, but she tolerates it better. I will not spend money on other brands in the future. 4 stars because I would have liked a little…

I love the muzzle and would like it to be sold separately (no halter). I'd rather attach it to the holster. My naughty little pony has taken this thing off his face so many times that I figured out how to put it in places where he can't. Also, it is very hot in the summer and my boyfriend finds it difficult to breathe. I wish there was more space between the straps on the muzzle. Bought these for two miniature donkeys after buying several for the American cream vans. I like how they sit in drafts, especially with the sheep face, as well as extra padding behind the ears and under the cheek. Checkers love them more than others we've tried.
