Sleek And Dependable: Sternreiter Silver Double Bell Wind-Up Alarm Clock Review

I needed a replacement for a faithful "Ben" clock that finally stopped irreparably. Unfortunately the next two replacements were Chinese-made & had unreliable plastic innards. This has been working beautifully for me. If you think it ticks too loudly, set it on a folded washcloth, & apply a layer to two of tape to the bells if they're too loud.

We have purchased 3 different types of clocks from Best Buy in the past 2 years. The first one stopped working after about 3 mos.The second one lasted 6 mos., so we bought another. That one only lasted 6 mos., then they both stopped working! Finally I bought the Sterreiter Double Bell Mechanical clock and it worked for over 6 mos. Then I recently bought another. So far - so good!

This is by far the best clock I have ever owned. If you are a light sleeper this clock isn't for you, but I find the loud clicking to be soothing. I can tune in on the clicking and drift right off to sleep. The 36 hour winding is awesome, I wind it every night when I go to sleep. I was a little afraid the first few times I wound it that I would screw it up by winding too hard, but it gets to the end and hits a positive stop, so you can definitely tell to quit winding. It seemed like a great idea, the real thing-and so I took the dive. I bought it. It worked fine for a year, then gradually things fell apart.Now it is one year later, and this thing just died. For a while, I found if it stopped and you gave it a shake or a tap, it would resume ticking, but now-dead. And to think such a great product at such a cost then failure. OH,well.

Only worked for about 6 months. I really wanted a good wind up clock. I took it to a clock repair person and with a smile on his face he pointed to his trash can.

I really like this clock. I had to stick 5 cotton balls under the bells so I don't wake everyone else up in the house. That's my feedback.

I have a mixed review on this item. I bought one of these back in November 2014, and it's turned out to be the best alarm clock I've ever had. Interestingly enough, my original criteria for buying this was 3 things: 1.that it's of all-metal construction with metal internal workings 2. Bought this alarm clock for my father-in-law. He was familiar with this style of clock and knew exactly how to operate it without the instructions. He loves it! Keeps great time and has a nice, loud alarm which he needs due to his loss of hearing.

It's a nice enough clock, but way over priced. It has a weighty feel and the silver color is like a nickel color of silvertone. It works so I'll not send it back, but at the price it is, I was expecting a better quality item.

I bought this clock because it was billed as being loud and reliable. I got it, set it and it promply stopped ticking. I tapped it and it started to work. I've had this alarm clock for eight years, and it's been really great. I like a purely mechanical clock rather than relying on batteries or a wall socket. The spring seems like it would last for a little over two days on a full wind, but I wind it once per night out of habit and just to ensure it keeps going. Arrived with the bell spring mechanism broken, out of the box. Kept good time for the couple of hours I had it, but was not usable as an alarm clock. I never got to hear the bell.

Never Slept through my Alarm again! This thing can wake the dead. Just make sure not to forget to wind it/have a backup phone alarm. Mine also stopped randomly in the night once or twice but it is usually fine. I also find the ticking soothing.
