Smiths DCS4 4 Inch Diamond Sharpening Review

Without a doubt the best sharpener I have ever had. I've tried stones, stationary, sitting on countertops, long, thin, whatever, and none of them could make a blade as sharp as this one. I mainly use this for very thin, curved Japanese knives that I use in the kitchen on a daily basis. . I have been using this sharpener for two years now. I'm a professional chef and I work on a boat. I sharpen all my kitchen knives with this tool. The sheath forms a very secure grip that protects your hand from the knife blade when pressing on the blade. I like "thin" and "rough" at the beginning of the file because it's hard to tell them apart. I sharpen at two angles, coarse for the high angle and fine for the last edge. Done with the shark and it's as sharp as a new double-edged razor blade!

Buy this product while I was away for 6 months. It works better than expected for knife sharpening. It has been used to sharpen over 25 different knives from 3 and 1/2 inches to 9 inches with different steel grades and blades and has produced clean edges on the blades. The only problem with this knife sharpener is the connection. the handle is not so strong and reliable. I've found this to actually be a problem and a hazard, and it's just simply easier to sharpen knives without an actual handle

I bought my first Smith diamond sharpener about 20 years ago. I literally took off the diamonds. Great tool, I've always liked it. Needless to say, I was thrilled to see the exact same SharpWBWR for sale. When I received it I was disappointed that it was made cheaper. The stone does not fit exactly on the handle. When inserted, it wobbles and falls out easily. When I put the rock in my old grip it turned out to be a little tighter so I use it and threw away the new grip. I have enjoyed this…

It's great for a toolbox when you need to add a sharp blade to a roughly treated blade and the knife just needs a quick blade that's "sharp" enough I've owned many diamond and stone sharpeners over the past 40 years. When you have a good pocket knife, like my $140 jackknife, do you want it to end up with a razor sharp edge? I'm talking about a very getting a good haircut even if you can't boast that you can shave your arm hair I don't usually spend enough time trying to get as sharp as possible

OK. am i professional NO! I also don't want to spend more than 30 minutes creating the perfect edge. Sharp knife (really sharp) in 5 minutes (maximum) = perfect. What I have: Smith's Adjustable Edge Pro (electric), Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker, YUKSY Premium Knife whetstone kit.
