Works well initially then overheats

I've had great speeds during use but after an hour or two the unit gets very hot and I see the speeds drop to near zero until the unit cools down is again. Unfortunately, I don't find it suitable for everyday use.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • I won't say anything

Constant overheating

The thing is good if you don't plan to transfer a lot of data. There's no point in having a 10GB network card if you won't be able to use it for a long time. It keeps overheating and turns off when you start it, transferring a large amount of data. If it can't support the functionality by passing data, then what's the point. A 1GB network card works fine. I would look elsewhere if you plan to use it to transfer a large amount of 10GB of data.

  • Stable results when tested

Easy plug and play with 10 gigabytes on my imac

gigabytes on my imac. As with any 10 gigabyte deployment, make sure your ethernet cables are Category 6a or higher or you'll get inferior performance.

Pros
  • Regular price
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model

Works good but feels hot

It looks like it can run at speeds in excess of gigabit but this thing gets very hot. The chassis is made entirely of metal and otherwise feels well made. Using a crossover cable between two computers, I was able to get 200 stable and 300 Mbps peak. Soon, our office will have a 10GBe switch, as well as servers and RAID 10 SSDs that can truly reach 10GBe speeds. I'll let you know as soon as I know more.

Pros
  • nice thing
Cons
  • expensive

Gets a little warm but works great after 2 months of continuous use

10G adapters like this are still amazingly expensive for their features. Eventually they will all become cheap, like 1G is now. We install ours on the back of the upper arm of a 16x iMac using VHB after removing the rubber feet. After holding them in place for 1 minute until there is a small strip of VHB, it is permanent. Consistent 10G speeds with the FS S5850-48TQ Switch on all our devices. I will look for a new firmware if there are problems.

Pros
  • Always liked
Cons
  • Can do damage

Overheats and turns off

See other reviews. This thing overheats and causes disconnects. My iMac keeps losing network connection, I have to use Wi-Fi as a backup when it starts turning on and off. turning it off for a while to let it cool down only helps for a while. Not even sharing data when that happens. I do not recommend.

Pros
  • I hold my fists
Cons
  • There are flaws

Works great on Mac and Windows.

Fantastic performance and works very well. It gets hot like any other 10G Ethernet network adapter, so be careful not to burn your hands, but at least it comes with a nice long and flexible Thunderbolt cable. I wanted one with a built in cable and it looks pretty good since the cable is detachable. but there are a few screws to loosen. So it's safe there, you don't have to worry about the adapter side being a point of failure. Installation is pretty easy, just install the Aquantia drivers. The…

Pros
  • Not just useful for its intended purpose
Cons
  • Compatibility
