Premium Tree Trunk Aquarium Decoration with Hollow Center Review

I have this in my 29 gallon tank. It's almost too big for this tank size. Overall, that's a good chunk. I purchased this item to replace the decor I originally purchased from PetCo. The paint on the PetCo product came off easily after brushing with a toothbrush. On this part I noticed that the paint was coming off at the tips of the sharp edges. It's not really noticeable, but I have to keep an eye on it and be concerned.

I bought these mainly for the size as I wanted a new home for my Blood Parrot Cichlid. This is what he hopes to call home for a long time to come. (if it doesn't outgrow it) But this tree is just wonderful and strong. This is my new centerpiece for my 55 gallon aquarium. ^_^ Edit (2017-03-26): I've owned it for two years and it's still as reliable as ever. And kept its color. There is no loss of fish. That's great! And I've added a photo of my own cichlid who still loves his tree.

Great product for the price. I swear if I saw this thing on the shelf at a big pet store they would sell it for like $100. But this item is definitely worth its price. It's huge! It was packaged really well (which I think is worth the bonus points) and all my fish are attracted to this thing. I like how realistic it looks. I'm very happy with it and if you don't get it because it's too expensive for you then you're definitely a failure. I have it in my 75 gallon tank and it still looks great.

Ok for the price. The texture is the best I can say about it, although it has a lot of sharp edges. But even with that I have complaints. The exterior is nicely done, but if you look inside you can see the shiny brown plastic. Kind of distracts from everything else. Also the color is not compatible. It's big and looks cool, but it smells like plastic and paint. I've been working in the plastics industry for 10 years and the smell is like standing next to a curtain of melted LDPE. I soak it in hot water repeatedly to see if I can get rid of the smell and will update this review with the results. Big enough to fit in my Coralife BioCube29 which I use for freshwater tetra and pygmy gourami. Looks great, my grandson loves it too. I put the air stone in the middle of the hollow center to make the bubbles come out at the top, good effect. I used Instant Aquarium Tahitian Moon (black) sand about 3.5 inches deep so part of the trunk is hidden as the tree stands on the acrylic base not the sand, see photo for understanding.
