Can't understand what's up with all the negative reviews. I was in the middle of nowhere in the Pacific Northwest and every signal I sent out worked. The idea is that every time you press OK, Spot will send a signal for 20 minutes if you have a good view of the sky. It's not a very powerful device (it's not like instant texting), so of course you should just sit back and let it sit and work its magic. I've been using SPOT for a few years now and would give it about 3 stars out of 5. I've never had to use the panic button so I can't comment on how effective the system is, but they have tons of reviews on the site.
