A great way to prepare a small batch of yogurt.

An easy way to make small batches of fresh yoghurt! Fill zhe with whole milk, heat to 190, cover with a lid and put in a thermos, pour 190 degree water around a closed jar, cover the thermos with a lid and wait 20 minutes. Cool the milk to 115°C, add the starter, mix, cover and place in a thermos with the lid closed for 3-6 hours. Place the jar in the fridge to cool. Strain or not - I don't use any other ingredients and my family loves it!

Not easy, didn't work for me

I've tried over and over again but it doesn't work. Before that I made my own yoghurt in a yoghurt maker for 6 years, but my little car broke down, I couldn't find a replacement glass, that intrigued me. I wasted at least 3 gallons of milk trying to get this to work. Very frustrating. I have read and tried many different techniques. I just can't get it to maintain a warm or constant temperature at all.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!

  • Only available in white

Consistently tasty results

I use this weekly to make yogurt from my goat milk. It works great! It retains the heat necessary for the fermentation of the milk for 8 hours and the resulting yoghurt has a very pleasant taste. I've used Salton's electric yogurt maker, which made individual cups and took up a lot of space, and I prefer this method: a one-liter jar surrounded by a double-walled stainless steel container that uses hot water instead of electricity. Simple and compact. Robust construction. Contains a glass jar…

Works great but doesn't take liter canisters.

I love this product for its ease of use, no plastic contact with my food and no electricity required to operate! It makes great yogurt! BUT I noticed the jar didn't hold a full liter and after checking I found that the jar supplied was shorter than the standard American liter jar. When I tried to use a Mason brand one liter jar, it was too big for the bottle cap to screw on. I was able to cover the bottle with a cap, but I couldn't unscrew it to keep the contents warm during fermentation. I…

Wide Mouth Quarter Jars

Jar Launch - Comes with a fantastic New Zealand Agee jar. If you like the tactile feel of glass, you'll love it. Similar in size and function to the American Freemason or Kerr. The product is excellent, the quality is very good. This is a screw cap thermal container. No jam, maintains temperature by preheating with hot/warm water. I tested this with the same recipe I use in a gallon sized electric yogurt maker. We all preferred the batch made in this manufacturer. The yogurt was thoroughly…

So far I'm satisfied but could do better

Using this thermos instead of an electric yogurt maker has many advantages - it doesn't take up much space, looks good and can be used for something else if You no longer want to make yoghurt. The only disappointment is that it doesn't hold the temperature well. It stays warm when the starting temp is simmering (e.g. to make porridge overnight) but if you try to reach 105-115F to make yogurt the temperature will drop to 95-105F after 2-3 hours. It's still fermenting and my yogurt comes out…

So simple and easy to use every day!

Eliminates the need for extra equipment and cables! I needed a yogurt maker that would allow me to make a large batch of yogurt in a jar and send it straight to the fridge or freezer without cleaning. So this was a real find! The icing on the cake was that once the jug and hot water is in this kettle the electricity is no longer needed so there is no cord and I can put it anywhere without having to be near an outlet and the point is that it is off the grid. Also, the cable does not interfere…

After 40 years, the non-electric yogurt maker is finally back!

40 years ago I got a Dairy-yo yoghurt maker (made in Australia). It consisted of a liter jar and a thermal container to keep the yoghurt warm during fermentation. It was perfect. So I spent years finding more and found one on eBay in Australia about 5 years ago. People cling to them, which is why they are very hard to find on eBay. Eventually someone realized this was the perfect yogurt maker and released a new yogurt maker based on Dairy-yo (interestingly from New Zealand). This one has a…
