Unreliable screw cap

This basket was designed to keep hops off the beer but the lid is loose. The cap came off during the process and I still had to filter out the hops. Have returned the item. Great idea if the top was safer.

Pros
  • Well built
Cons
  • Good but not great

Top holes 1.75mm

The sieve is about 300 microns but the top holes are 1.75mm on my micron. I'm going to use a piece of nylon stocking to cover the holes on top. This filter is on the fragile side but should work just fine.

Excellent, very useful, the best in the kitchen and dining room

A great way to separate the hop pellets from the wort. This reduces the amount of substance at the bottom of the boiler. they are big enough for three packs of dry hops. I got 2 for 60 minutes and 1 for 10 minutes. I'm currently looking for another one for dry hopping.

Prevents clogging of the brewer when dry hopping.

I used to dry hops with muslin bags. They invariably clogged the flow of beer into kegs or bottles at the end of fermentation. This product really exposes the hops in the wort but allows for easy bottling. They can also be easily rinsed out and quickly sterilized for the next brew.

Pros
  • Great variety
Cons
  • Not as thick as other varieties

No lid chain best in kitchen and dining room

Just got this in the mail and can't answer some of the other complaints here as I haven't used it yet. What I will note is that the filter cap comes with an eyelet but not a chain which appears to be incomplete. my hand or tongs in the liquid.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • poorly thought out

Large holes in the lid render it almost useless

Advertised as 300 micron hop color but the large holes in the lid have no mesh at the top. The filter cartridge sinks to the bottom and as the hop pellets break up, the hops float through the large holes at the top and float to serve the wort, then sink back to the bottom outside of the filter. I tried adding a wine cork to prevent the must from getting big holes but it still sank. Next time I'll try to add more corks or just use a mesh bag.

Good dry hop filter.

The filter appears to be lightweight, but so far has proven reliable. Unless you try to put a lid on it, it should hold up very well. The lid stayed securely in place while I hopped my last IPA. Many have complained that the holes in the lid are too big, but I have found that as the hop pellets expand, they form a sufficient cork to prevent the solids from escaping. I definitely wouldn't use it to add cooking hops as it's not strong enough to handle that type of environment. I use it for dry…

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Largely OK, but...

Not as effective as I'd hoped as a tea infuser

First off I'd like to say I'm not using it for its intended purpose so I can't rate it in a homebrewing context . I bought this because I couldn't find what I needed in a custom gallon sized container cold tea brewer. Its hard bottom makes it less than ideal for this purpose, and it's also difficult to scrape loose leaf tea. The screw cap has holes much larger than the pore size on the sides of the strainer, which sometimes allows the tea leaves to spill out as they naturally rise and fall in…
