Last thermostat stuck open

Living in Arizona in the summer wasn't a big problem. Has kept my truck running, especially when towing. Now that winter is here my gas mileage is terrible and it won't go past 120. Did a quick flush, installed this guy and voila. The truck will now properly warm up to operating temperature. No complaints. Not included with 1995 Tahoe TBI seals.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use

  • A few little things

Important part missing

So as a dodgy woodworker I ordered a thermostat to replace the aging one in my truck. I opened this package and did not notice any seals, gaskets or anything else in the box other than the thermostat itself. Since I'm assuming the old one was bad, I won't put the old gasket on the new part. Had to wait 2 days for the parts store to open to get one which added about $3 to the overall cost. It's not that expensive but there should be a gasket included, or at least a warning on the side that it…

Does not include rubber gasket around thermostat.

I bought this for my '93 Chevy commuter thinking it was a complete product and everything you need to install a thermostat. I was planning to install it in a vehicle that didn't have a thermostat. Drain the coolant, remove the top hose, open the box to pull out the thermostat and boom, there is no rubber gasket around the thermostat, without it the coolant can just spill out, that keeps it in place. So I put it back in the box and there it sits. I bought this product in Haiti so there is no…

Installed with no problems.

It was part of the 1981 Trans Am Firebird special edition. The car came from the factory without air conditioning and I installed vintage air conditioning. But even with a 4.9 liter V8 engine, running the air conditioner will cause the coolant temperature to get too high. This thermostat seems to turn on fully at a lower temperature than the old one, allowing the coolant to start circulating faster. Unfortunately, Revain doesn't have a gasket for the auto/thermostat combo so I had to find one…

Pros
  • Great design

  • Old fashioned

I ran my own experiment and Stant SuperStat was the clear winner

These are the best, they open and close much faster and more accurately than Autozone, Napa etc. I ran an experiment and used this, one from Autozone and one from Oreilly - I put them in a saucepan of boiling water and checked with a thermometer at what temperature each one opens. While all three were supposed to open at 195°F, only the stant opened anywhere near that number. The other two opened closer to 170*F. When I turned off the fire on the stove, the stent also closed first. I repeated…

Pros
  • Confident

  • A little torn
