Я купил это из-за 4-дюймового квадрата Starrett, который у меня был в течение долгого времени, был хорошо сформирован и был куплен моим дедушкой более 100 лет return. This 6 inch square is just as well made and will no doubt last as long as my first with minimal maintenance. The picture shows a new 6" square with an (antique) 4" square.

Essential woodworking tool

This is an essential tool that I've carried in my apron since I bought it. I've bought 6" and 12" squares and use this one most of the time. I am building closets for the first time. This angle has helped me with everything from ensuring my table saw blade is square and at the correct height to making repeatable marks on all types of wood. This eliminates a lot of guesswork, saving time and resulting in a better product. On the other hand, marks embossed on a ruler can be difficult to see from…

if square not square

I have 2 of these, I expected them to be accurate at this price range. So I started working on projects that used both squares at the same time. I started noticing that the angle is different on the two squares. . Of course they have to be precision tools and I didn't know which one was defective so I had to buy a machine block to check and sure enough one of them was defective. I ended up using 240 grit sandpaper to clean up the beveled edge of the ruler to make it square. It doesn't matter in

The tolerances are tight, the processing reliable. A limitation.

My caveat is the design of this square. The thing is, when you set the slider to a size roughly halfway down the calibrated ruler, and then move the square to transfer the measurement, you sometimes forget which edge of the ruler is the reference edge. If you have a combination square of the same design, you'll always know which side was the original edge since one side is 45 and the other is 90. I didn't think that through when I bought the quad and now I prefer my (unfortunately less well…

Best double square money to buy

Well made tool I will pass on to my son. I used a square from one of the big stores. It was good for construction, but it didn't have the precision I needed to take accurate measurements when making fine furniture. About a month ago I bought a Double Square (I won't say the name) that was 30% less than Starrett. I thought I got a good deal. I was wrong. There was no fit, finish or overall quality. The blade rumbled in the grip. I sent it back the next day. I ordered a Starrett and when I…

High quality at a premium price. It's worth it.

This is my second Starrett square (I also have a large 12 inch 45 degree square). I bought this to replace a small square crown tool that wasn't square at all. In fact, I used this tool for a long time before finally realizing that it wasn't applicable when manually joining the edges of a thick board. This will teach me to carefully check the things I buy before using them! Since adjustment is not possible, this instrument is now a brass and rosewood paperweight. Either way, the Starrett is an…

Expensive and worth it

High quality. Expensive and worth it. It's a double square, meaning the blade can slide and secure as needed. Finding a good place is difficult. It's amazing how they can make a double square that stays square. Either way, this is what you pay for. I use this tool for my woodworking hobby. Because I can move my head quickly along the blade, I can commit to a specific measurement and easily take repeated measurements by holding the pieces of wood to the side of the head. This seemingly simple…

Accurate, Genuine and Brilliant

This is a beautiful, accurate instrument and is the first Starrett I have ever held in my hands. Years ago I bought a Tesa Swiss caliper and one of their micrometers after the original owner passed away. This was my first exposure to precision instruments and they left a strong impression of the importance of accuracy and how easy they are to use. For years I got by with an inferior combination square and my guaranteed Incra square, but the former was cheap and the latter had no gauge marks…
