    Accurate center marking

    I have other center marking tools, but being able to mark with one hand is very valuable. It is high quality and easy to use when precision is required for locating holes.

    Excellent tool for mechanical and hand tools

    Very accurate hole centering tool. Very useful for hinges, drawer slides etc where precise screw placement is paramount. Also very expensive. But that's Starrett and Starrett quality.

    Great device! on power and hand tools

    I have several Starrett tools that have never let me down. However, this simple little tool exceeded my expectations. I like the precision, the feel of the tool in my hand during use and the very sharp tip; it's pretty effective and worth it!

    The quality is also at the highest level - it's a pleasure to use.

    This Starrett tool is about five times the price of the cheap Chinese ones you can get at your hardware store, but it's a hundred times better. You only need one hand to operate it and that makes all the difference in the world. It provides a perfectly centered hole every time. I just wish I had more hinges to install so I can use it more often.

    Doesn't work right out of the box

    I want to install some piano hinges and their placement is critical. The screws MUST be centered in the hinge holes. Right out of the box, the punch failed to "shoot" reliably, and when it did, the punch marks were noticeably off-center. I am returning it for a new one in the hope that my hammer drill is defective. Stay with us. OK. A new device arrived, everything worked. But it did NOT center the screws as advertised. Something was close, something was far away, and it never worked stably…
